Gr4vitas Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Well basicly i'm a n00b to cars. Just got my license last year and i have a 1983 chevy blazer. It's a beast to say the least. Anyway i wan't to get some mudding tiers on it. Nothing too extensive but i wan't something thats going to be fun. Also i wanted to look into getting some KC lights ( i think that's what it is) across the top of my blazer. Also looking into getting some flares for it. The kind with the bolts aroudn the rim. (Wan't it to look a bit badass ^_^) That's basicly it for now. Just got back into my job and all and i'm looking for a few semi inexpensive upgrades to have some fun with. Also in the future i was looking at getting a nice rugged front rack. Any tips sugjestions and junk would be awsome.
LoArmistead Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Good stuff. Is it a K5 or an S10? As for tires... Generally, BF Goodrich Mud Terrain or All Terrain TA's are great, reasonably priced, tires for trucks and SUV's.
bigred Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 those tires aren't really "mudding" tires. true mudding tires require a lift, seeing as how they start @ 36" and are generally WIDE (12.5" or more) plus I'd never recomend mudding tires for daily driving. they run at a low air pressure, kill gas milage, and get torn up really fast. Andrewr05 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 For an aggresive look just get some "cut-out" style flares: Bushwacker "Cut-Out" Flares With a small 2-4" lift and some meatier tires you'll be doing this:
bigred Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 that's more than a 4" lift. looks like 3" body and 3" suspension. 36" tires... yes, but NOT mudding tires. true mudding tires look like this. notice the lack of a bald tire there. I still use trail tires for some mudding, but if it's serious (mud bog drag racing) then the TA's come off and the TSR's go on. and THIS is what mudding is supposed to be like also bushwackers are for looks. they actually get in the way of true wheeling. this reminds me I need to order some new tires really soon. TA's have taken a beating on the rocks this year... never actually put 10,000 miles on an offroad truck in one year till this year
Gr4vitas Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 (edited) Alright, well how much would it cost to get likea 3" lift? And is that enough for decent mudding tires not "true" mudding tires but something a little beafy'er than the stock ones? EDIT: And yea its an S10 This is the best example i could find of one. This is just like mine but mine has a stupid little spoiler on the back. And mines finish on the paint is pretty much gone. Just primer now lol! Also mine has the little step up on the sides. The one in the picture doesn't. And mine's a 2 door. http://www.autospecialist.com/images/autoP...lsize/22811.jpg Edited November 1, 2006 by pogs16a2
LoArmistead Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 EDIT: And yea its an S10 ding ding ding! Filter your suggestions accordingly, gentlemen. For an S10 blazer, I'd still go with some Mud Terrain or All Terrain TA's. Put a lift and bigass mudding tires on that thing and it won't be able to move. bigred Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 check your local laws first! some states like michigan have banned NEW lifts which is why anything I do I have done down south and brought back up. next you have to specify if you're looking at a body or suspension lift. Body lift kits will run you about $500. but they're really only for looks and to improve wheel clearance. as suspension lift will truely improve ground clearance (as will ditching the side steps). but to get a quality suspension lift, correctly installed you're looking several thousand (not sure how much a chevy let alone one that small would cost) to start. I would highly advise against installing your own lift if you have little to no experience in major vehicle repairs. this is a pic of my truck while REPAIRING the suspension lift. much easier than installing it in the first place. Gr4vitas Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 (edited) I see. Well i don't have thousends to spend on it so i suppose i would just have to go with a body lift? And would that make enough room to put some bigger tires on it? Somthing like this http://www.4wheelonline.com/Images/Categor.../TireHeader.jpg EDIT: This is what im going for but with a beafy'er front rack. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt...6lr%3D%26sa%3DG Edited November 1, 2006 by pogs16a2
bigred Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 those come in all different sizes. heck you could get ones to go on the truck stock. just be warned tires like that have about 15,000 miles of pavement driving in them. which sucks if you have to get a set of 44" monsters @ $2,000 each... lesson there... have a spare set of regular tires for daily driving, keep the heavy lugged stuff in the trunk or garage unless you plan to use em... or just don't drive your offroader on the road. I have to trailer mine now (for legal reasons as much as cost)
Gr4vitas Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 I see. Well what would you sugjest for a tire that i can get to school on as well as have some fun in the mud with?
