I'd reccomend the "Be smart and don't go to webpages/DL things you arn't supposed to go and won't have these problems"

:P:) never had a problem with spyware... except the people who come to me because spyware "magically" infected there PCs because they were going to erm.... anywho

ON TOPIC:

well first off I'd reformat and get rid of Nortons cuz it sux

then I would get AVG free edition

Spybot if you'd like or my personal favorite X-Cleaner

Google taskbar popup blocker

and finally a copy of Windows Registry Repair

Do not randomly click yes to anything that pops up on your screen especially if it says you can only view something by saying yes.Close the program even if it means using task Manager to close it

Run all of these once a week and defrag regularly and your pc should be fine

buy a apple or install linux.. never worry again lol

um.. the best of the best that i have seen is.. run opera.. :) also ad-aware free is good

the best one that i have paid for is the web-root spy sweeper.. it gets EVERYTHING.. and is worth every penny.. its really amazing.. its the only one thats worth paying money 4..

the best way i think is to go through your system folders one at a time and look for bogus programs.. u know.. every so often.. just to make sure you dont have some wildtangent folder or some bloogal bla software installed that you dont know what it is..

eahh.. just be safe about what you click on..

Just a friendly reminder, as sdy has already pointed out, we don't support warez or piracy here guys. I know most of us know that, but apparently a few don't.

And for god's sake, why would you recommend pirating and cracking a software that can be aquired FREELY?!

while simply buying a mac is not always the best option. there is a very good chance we're going to be seeing OS X sold seperate retail right next to Vista in the near future.

Linux is an option, but to me the software limitations (especially when it comes to some major business apps and games) is an issue to weigh out for yourself.

but I do have to agree Opera is a god-send for this. Spyware / Malware apps are written to interface IE and Mozilla (netscape) because they are the 2 most common browsers. the Mozilla problem also effect Firefox :( however Opera is a totally different, written from the ground up by our friends at Sun.

I also have to totally disagree with anyone saying not to use Norton. I use it in a large scale corporate environment. I bought a full 500 cal license for my company. it's by FAR the most reliable, thorough, and compatible AV out there. Norton IS is bloated and causes more problems than it's worth however. I'd stay clear of that thing.

Thanks for the list guys :)

1. Im not stupid, I don't install crap like your talking about lol

2. The problem with Linux and Mac is that pretty much 1% of game developers develop for Linux/Mac. And im NOT going to pay for some emulator.

3. I have to keep norton because my dad wants the parental controll

the reason I think OS X needs another look is coming very soon.

dual booting a rig between OS X and XP is already possible on the Mac hardware. getting it on your PC will really be a big deal.
