mantonr Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I had a network drive mapped at home to another of my computers so that i could access the files on it. I have now moved to university but still want to be able to access the resources on this computer. Now i'm thinking that if i put the ip address of my router into the mapping thing then my computer should be able to connect, but i need to tell the router which computer to send the request to and for that i need to know what port all this stuff runs through. Could somebody tell me which port network drive things go through please? Thanks Rob
ClayMeow Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 AFAIK, that's impossible without a VPN set up.

savethedodobird Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 The only way I can think to do it is FTP. Probably not what your wanting to do, But I dont know any other way.
ClayMeow Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 The only way I can think to do it is FTP. Probably not what your wanting to do, But I dont know any other way. FTP would require the downloading of files, not live access like a VPN would. If you don't want to set up a "real" VPN, you can use hamachi. You'd have to install it on both computers and then create a virtual network between the two of you. I've tested it with cold_snipe and we were indeed able to access each other's shared directories, which in turn should mean the ability to map it to a drive letter.
