Edwardd Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Hello, I never had any experience with wireless networks so I need to ask a question: The situation is the following: I have an ADSL modem (alcatel Speedtouch 330) USB connected to one of my PC's at home. Overall, I have 3 computers with wireless Lan card and I need a sort of wireless Modem/router ( Im not sure??) The problem is that I want this modem/router to be only connected to the ADSL external line and thats it!!! so that all my 3 computers would have internet. In particular, I have an adsl line downstairs and 3 computers on 3rd floor and I dont want to drag any cable from my modem and connect it to USB one of my PC's in order to have internet, so I ask for some advice: What system should I buy to have only one box standing connected to the line and other computers use internet wireless?? sdy284 Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 you just need a wireless router. Once purchased (i recommend Linksys for brand) just follow the detailed instructions for hooking it up & you'll be set

kurosen Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 it appears that modem is only USB... i would contact your ISP to see if there is another modem they have that you can exchange for that runs an ethernet jack to your computer (or in this case wifi router)

Edwardd Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 My modem is only USB and it only has adsl line in thats all. So I have to by something like wireless modem/router?? and If I buy one do I have to connect it to any PC? because the point is to connect it only to the adsl line and thats all. All 3 computers must be modem connection-free.

All 3 computers must be modem connection-free. no you will not have to. The only time you would have to connect it to the PC would be if you wanted to update the firmware of the router, then you'd have to be physically connected. BionicSniper Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 if you are able to in your area i would HIGHLY recomend ditching dsl ASAP. I have had WAY to many problems while setting it up for people with the stupid poppe stuff. IMO dsl is crap. but you will have to buy a dsl modem. Then call your isp and have the change the authentication to that modem. Then you will need to buy a wireless router and wireless cards for all of your computers. Then just plug the modem into the router via a cat5e or cat6 cable. Set up all of the cards on your computers and pray to god that you dont have any interference or dead spots in your home.
