Mr_Yuck Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 This is what looks to me like a Volvo ad/music video from the 80s, very entertaining and includes some really cool synchronized driving on the part of the 740 drivers. This video is a real treat for Volvo fans like myself. Volvo SnoRace I'm lovin the song too...
Propane Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 that reminds me of this SABB PR department video... kind of akin to modern day BMW Film's "The Hire" (if anyone wants any of these videos... I have them all and will gladely upload them). I love these kinds of videos, very fun to watch er... Mr_Yuck Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 nice one. Crazy Swedes. I love Saabs too, the 9000 not so much as the 900s but that was really well done.

robAP Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 (edited) i used to have an 80's volvo...actually a '79 242 but the same chassis design lasted through the series to 92. in the vid those are 740's but they were designed along the same lines really. they were long wheelbased cars...with one of the most naturally balanced chassis you could ask for. unbelieveably predictable so you really could do what they did in the commercial there...or at least were confident enoguh to try. I don't know how mine held together with what I put it through but honestly it was overengineered to begin with. I sourced sport springs, gas shocks and some turbo alloy rims, sway bars, toer brace... and was outhandling BMW's of the day....easily. gained another 15mph on the off ramps. throw in a turbo and the stock engine (2.1 or 2.3 liter unit) would generate up to 300 hp all day long....i never did that tho. before i could do that mine broke down south of toronto with fuel delivery problems after 21 years and 150k+ miles on it. one of the easiest cars to work on for anything you needed to do. i got $1700 for a non-starting 21 year old volvo towards a nice low mileage s-10.....my s-10 has no soul....not like my volvo did. I bet your fuel pump relay gave up the ghost. 150k is nothing for a volvo. My '90 240 that I sold to my neighbor so I could buy an Automatic '88 is still going strong with 222k miles on it. That B230f engine is awesome, my family currently has 3 of them, an '85 740, a '92 740, and my '88 240. You can crawl in the engine compartment, close the hood, and keep working on the thing...so much room, not surprising that people take those out and drop V8s in there! I'll be putting some Billstein shocks on mine and i'll be good to go. Dont need no stinking performance upgrades...want...yes...need...no. I recommend you put a sign in that S10 and start looking for a new brick
robAP Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 (edited) asnt the fuel pump relay. it was 0 deg. F and the fuel line was most likely freezing as the years up to 83 used a thin walled line part number..... along the years of owning this thing i had replaced enough things to realize its not the mileage that wears things out on this car...its the AGE. you can drive a zillion miles on the car in 5 years and it will not need a thing. but drive 50k in 20 years and youll replace everything just from age. IPD was my soure for everything i needed. i had their entier full on suspension kit on it. that B21 or B23 engine in these things will go 400k miles or more...my hydraulics professor in college had one with 460k on it. my s-10 is nice. no soul. but i dont know of any brick that can haul mouldings, logs, drywall, etc. that im using it for now. its just too useful at the moment. I still have my old VIN number from the old brick that i sold. someday ill have to go get it back. Mr_Yuck Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Yeah, I guess utility beats out soul...we can dream though... I Considered buying an '84 240 turbo wagon from my uncle with 20,000 original miles and a garage life, with some upgrades, but...that's $8000 I didnt have, but it sure is a sweet car, maybe I'll have a hotrod Volvo some day, ya never know.
