NCC10281982B Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 This was in the paper this morning. Intresting IMHO. Researchers discover new global warming

LoArmistead Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 The earth has done OK for the past six or so billion years. We are still warming up from the last ice age. The increased solar activity has caused the earth to steadily warm up, releasing these gasses from under the soil. I'm sure this isn't the first time this has happened in the earth's history (given that we've only been able to record this sort of data with gasses being released into the atmosphere for, what? 60-80 years?). Is it something to be concerned with? We don't know yet. The earth will most likely assimilate all these gasses into its natural cycle and do away with them just as it does away with all the other greenhouse gasses that it produces. The laws of nature require that it meet homeostasis whenever there's a change in its cycle. There's nothing we can do to help it get rid of those gasses being released, so we just gotta go with the flow. We are at the earth's mercy. If part of that flow is the ice caps melting and us having to move our beachfront houses back 20 feet, so be it.
virus Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 right, the planet will always be able to fix itself, but the changes it has to go through to fix itself can be hard for us lol.
Kamikaze_Badger Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 LoArm just about summed up what I was going to say. The earth has gone through multiple "global warmings" during its history. Unfortunately, with this one, we have humans who are smart enough to protest, but not research.
romeo55 Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 As others have said, its a cycle, warms up, cools, warms up... etc i doubt we'll actually do something about it think about all the carbon we're releasing as a whole (world) and take that and think about how long we've done (and probably going to) do it
bigred Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 has anyone else seen the discovery channel (or one of thier offshoots aired it maybe). they covered things like this... ironically it's a natural cycle of the planet. we just happen to be pushing things along a little faster. Guest Flashstar Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 we just happen to be pushing things along a little faster. We don't even know that for sure.
Kamikaze_Badger Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Actually, we do. But I'm not going to waste time.
bigred Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 well lets just say we're not helping matters much. of course you want to talk about methane in the air... methane is found in flatulance... primarily in animals that consume plant material... and there were TONS of them back when the dinosaurs walked the earth... just something else to think of
