CheeseMan42 Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 Today I was trying to change the fluid in my WC setup, but my res is giving me trouble. It is a plastic cap and the sides of the indent where you would put a screwdriver are wearing away. Now everytime I try to unscrew it, the screwdrive just slips out of the groove. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could get this open?
sdy284 Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 so its just a regular flathead screwdriver slot that has become stripped? (if i'm understanding correctly)
Nemo Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 Is the cap recessed into the top of the reservoir or can you wrap something around te edges of the cap to unscrew it?
CheeseMan42 Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 It is a flathead screwdriver and what would you suggest tieing around it?
hardnrg Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 i'd probably do the following: - get a replacement cap (free) from the company that makes the reservoir by asking nicely - if the cap is recessed, heat up a flathead screwdriver with a lighter, gas hob, gas torch and plunge it into the (assuming it's plastic) cap, letting the plastic cool, then turning it out... the cap will be a bit mangled... i'd take care not to melt the reservoir (especially the threads)... it might not be the safest solution, but i'm sure it would work, and would be a fairly quick operation
