Comp Dude2 Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 (edited) (this is not a comp i would actually build as my current rig is better but it is just interesting to see what can be done on such a low budget that some people here would blow on a single GPU B:) ) I was wondering what you guys think of my choice of parts and do you recomend anything better for the money. The budget is Edited August 17, 2006 by Comp Dude2
SMeeD Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 MSI K8NGM-V SKT 754 GeForce 6100 Chipset PCI-E DDR400 SATAII Sempron 2800+ GeForce 7600GS 400MHz 184Pin 512MB PC3200 DDR RAM DIMM 2.5V 3.2Gb/Sec I wouldnt get no-name memory. You can probably find some corsair value ram for cheap. Novatech Panacea ATX PC Tower Case with 350W PSU I wouldnt use the stock PSU, its bound to crap out sooner than later. Black 16x Internal DVD ROM Drive 512KB 48x CD Maxtor DiamondMax 10 SATAII 80GB The rest looks pretty good. I couldnt tell you much about the motherboard though. Comp Dude2 Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 (edited) Yeah i wondered about the RAM, because tbh you are going to need to upgrade to 1GB and might not be able to get an identical stick I was hoping the case PSU, although being crap, would not be under too much stress considering the generally low end components. Maybe this should go on the list on "as soon as you get enough money" list? or do you think it needs to be replaced right from the start? And yeah the mobo was a guess, right CPU socket, right RAM frenqucy, right GPU socket, SATA-2 compatible and 5.1 intergrated sound was all i looked at, wether it has plenty of options which are handy when OCing is a completely different thing lol P.S. Something like this? http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?CSR-VS4051 - Edited August 17, 2006 by Comp Dude2
SMeeD Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Yup thats the RAM I was thinking of. Ive owned the 256mb and 512mb sticks and they have all been fine. I would really buy a good PSU from the start. This Hiper PSU should do the job, although I couldnt find any reviews on my quick search. I saw some moderatley priced ones from Thermaltake and Enermax too. If you bought the PSU seperate you might also be able to find a cheaper case. Comp Dude2 Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 That leaves me with 14.21 to spend on the case, the cheapest on novatech was this one which looks kinda ugly but i am sure you could fit a few LED's and maybe even cut a side window in the future to make it look a bit cooler. SMeeD Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Operating System? Super low budget always calls for Linux
Comp Dude2 Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Hehe yeah Linux would be the way to go here but can you dual boot Linux and Windows on the same HDD? (do you need to partiition it?) Anyway windows joins another 1/2 GB of RAM on the list of things this computer would need to have bought for it in the future
SMeeD Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Yeah you can dual boot both, Ive done it a few times.

Comp Dude2 Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 Oh, interesting build there I like how you managed to get an Athlon 64 3200+ in, much better than the sempron and obvisously overclockable in the future Though if it was for me i would go for option 2, for my granny option 1 tho lol
Guest FxXP Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 Going with a VIA chipset based motherboard may be a cheaper solution, but it won't overclock as well as an nForce4 or RD480/580. That doesn't mean that it is bad though. I know that this extra piece of information may be insignificant, but if you wanted to go up to an X2, the K8T890 does not support dual-core.
