PROBLEM : Just sent an email complaining about a faulty PSU to the local store but I just tried something , to plug the "defective PSU" only into the 24pin and not the 4pin and it works whitout turning off ! So it's the mobo or what ?

Please help

Thanks

i seem to be a bit confused...

without turning off? you mean you get video and everything boots up into your OS?

this keeps getting more and more interesting.... any way you could give us the model number of your motherboard? I'd like to do a little research :P

I get no video but the fans keep spinning whitout it stopped (before it would stop after 5 sec) , this is with the new PSU which we claimed to be faulty and I just sent an email demanding an exchange. The shop people will read the email in about 9 hours but I'm gonna go to bed before that.

Need help ! What should I do ?

Mobo is P5GD1 Pro

I need to quickly fix the situtation with the local shop.

This one is really bothering me, this kid is now telling me that his rig is booting up fine with ONLY the power suppy connector connected to the mobo. And it doesn't run with the 4 pin auxiliary connected(Yellow & black). AND he isnt' getting NO video... I'm sorry but this is getting frusterating!! Tyran, we're going to get this fixed, this is now turning personal...lol

Ok, from what you explained to me thus far and how I understand this is that your computer starts fine with ONLY the 24 pin PSU connector connecrted. The computer will remain on but you can't see NO video so you're forced to turn off the computer by UNplugging it.

But! when you connect the 4 pin (yellow & Black) auxiliary into it's proper slot, the computer boots up and you get video but shuts off after about 5 seconds? We'll have to continue this when you get up from your sleep. In the meantime, fellas!? any other suggestions?

I would check the voltages coming from the 4 pin connector, but assuming it checks out alright, and based on psycho's explanation, it seems that the PSU **CAN'T** be at fault....

I'm now leaning back to the mobo... sorry to jump around so much, it's just tough to determine the cause when the symptoms jump around just as much :P

I still am confused by the whole thing.

Recap.

The problem cannot lie with the Hard Drive, CD Drive, Floppy Drive, as the problem persists when they are removed.

The 2 sticks of memory have been tried seperately and in different slots. (Basically ruling them out, although not totally)

The graphics card gives a picture, and same problem persists when this is removed. (So thats fine)

It cant be overheating, because the computer will sit there and run, when the 4 pin connector is connected.

The power supply im still not sure about, but seems to work and can power the system fine, except when the 4 pin connector is attached. (Same thing with the old PSU)

The motherboard can sit there and stay stable aslong as the 4 pin Power connector is plugged in. (Rule out grounding as the motherboard has beenn tried out of the case)

So could there be a problem with the 4 pin connect switch on the motherboard?

Can someone please clarify whether an ATX 2.0 Power Supply works with this Motherboard?

Just got back from the shop , they tested the PSU and they said it worked perfect but they didn't have time to test the mobo while I was there because there was a big line. So they will test it Tomorrow or next week and if it's defective they will replace it and if it's not they will charge me 30 dollars.

BUT he told me something important , the 4-pin connector is for the PROCESSOR(and video I think) to run , so if it's not connected the processor won't heat up which was why it wasn't hot ! So maybe it was crashing because the processor heated up too quickly but it's weird still that it lasts only 5 secondes before shutting off. If it's a processor heating issue that would explain that whitout the 4-pin my computer doesn't crash.

What do you guys think ?
