3rd Bad Hd In A Row

I did read what you posted, but you are obviously not reading what others are posting. Your situation is not based on bad drives, it is based on something killing your drives. You could buy a WDC a day from now and come back crying that it died a month later because of a faulty hardware component that affected it.

We can only give you advice. If you choose to ignore it, so be it.

Ditto. You don't have to listen but I might be in your best interest. I as well have had good experience with seagate. Bought 4 160gbs at one time and only one was a dud. Their quiet I can't even hear them with my ear to the case and with a 5 year warrenty who can beat it. I also have a 4gb seagate medalist that still works to this day.

any other spare drives to try?

well i have IDE drives, they work fine. my Raptor works fine to. i tried unplugging my raptor and all my other HDs and left the seagate plugged in, still noisey. what model did u buy? maybe i should give that a try. according to the silentpcreview forums... http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=32226 they're a loud bunch of HDs.

It has to be a problem with the way you handle the drive, these companies aren't going to sell or RMA three bad drives in a row.

1) unpack HD

2) place HD in a flat surface (usually on top of the box or sideways in the case, i stopped installing them in the bays after the first one was "screaming" at me)

3) connect power cable, and connect sata cable (and if its in the case, close the case door)

4) unplug IDE HDs, power up computer and place windows CD into dvd-drive

thats how i'm handling my HD. what can i do better? i abused my raptor A LOT more XD

http://forums.storagereview.net/index.php?showtopic=22660 poster named "lifted" specifically says his 750gb variant is louder then his 74gb raptor. also, seagates official specs say the 320gb is louder then the 750gb http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=32226

review here comparing it to a raptor as well http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_content.as...cookie%5Ftest=1

really? finally! at least now i know i'm not crazy! would u have links to these sites?

either u have bad hearing, or an amazing case

I don't have bad hearing and i do have a nice case. I use a CMStacker. Try a rubber bushing on your HDD screws to reduce any vibration. Plus my case sits about 20 inches from me while i'm at it.

Ditto I sleep in the same room as my comps and for some reason I could care less how loud they are as long as their less than 50db tho. Complaining about how loud a hdd is such a minor thing there are worse things to complain about then noise.

they are reworked t7k250's, less platters, 16mb cache, etc. Currently the t7k250's hold the fastest access time of any 7200rpm drive and arent loud while doing it, so it seems a worthy upgrade.

how much of a dif is there between the 8MB and 16MB Cache? is the speed dif huge?
