Also I know Im going to get flammed for this but please Consider an Apple, There great for CAD and such. Not there normal line but I know Apple will make you a computer that would be great for CAD. cchalogamer Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 I think solid works utilized HT so i would only assume that it would use dual core...Though I'll admit solid works never really impressed me much. I would think that Dual Opterons would be a much better choice though...seeing as how you could be free of memory bandwidth limitations compared to the dual core CPUs. bigred Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 this is what the FX and X2 were made for. pure and simple. so the best of both worlds (dual core AND the FX) is the Fx-60. it's what mine is used for. BTW apple generally doesn't do very well in cad apps. 2d video rendering they do well, but that's mostly because of the software.. Puck Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Lol, you guys are totally overdoing it! Our CAD computers in the tech lab in hs were 1.7ghz p4's with 512 ram and 32mb rage128 graphics cards. Solidworks is like "babycad", and really isnt stressfull at all. A program like Autodesk inventor or something will be more intensive in most cases. I can understand if its cad layouts for like whole neighborhoods or theme parks, but for just single objects up to like a car in size you wont need much at all. It really depends on the intensity of the CAD work...but since solidworks is easy to use and usually a learning tool, I doubt it wil be anything too stressful. Byron Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 I've been drafting for about 2yrs now in hs, and i've got exp on mainly autocad 05/06, inventor, and pro-e, but iv'e meddled in a few others including program for a week just to test it, and it really doesnt require much. We've got some p4 2.8's 1gb memory, and a cheaper fire gl card, and they ran it with no problem. But on more intensive programs such as pro-e or whatever, you'd definantly need a beefier setup that would take up the 3800 budget. Just remember, dont overdo it for what they are drafting, if its single parts or small assemblies, you dont need massive processing power or 8gb of ram.
