Vic Mackey Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 Hello. I am putting my new computer together this weekend and I bought X3 Reunion and didnt know it used starfoce copy protection. I read on their forums its a huge hassle to work with that program. What do you all think about starforce? Will it screw up other games or make my computer run slower? Im hesitant to install the game now because of starforce. I dont want my brand new computer to run bad because of this program or have my hardware damaged(I read that really happened). Thing is I got the game from Best Buy and I bet they wont let me return it cause its opened. It was never installed but they wont care.... ClayMeow Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 Personally I hate starcrap (as it's known in the online world ). It has issues if you have Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools installed. But otherwise I don't think there's a problem with it, except that it installs (what could be considered spyware) onto your system. Kash Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 Well, since you already bought the game and you have a license for it, I guess you could find another "copy" of the game without the Starforce copy protection. I know OCC doesn't condone illegal activities, but since he bought the game, he technically isn't stealing. It's kind of how we tell people who have legit WinXP licenses but have lost or scratched their discs to go out and find another copy but use their paid-for key. Verran Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 I had heard that about X3 too, but I bought it anyways. I was amazed because I had the exact opposite experience from what others described. Mine installed without a problem, and to my amazement it didn't even ask for my CD key. The only thing I needed that for was to register for the forums online so I could read them. I also had daemon tools installed at that time, I believe, but I know I didn't have Alcohol installed. Anyways, I've had the game a while now and I haven't had any problems at all. I don't have any other starforce games either, so I can't really compare. The game itself is pretty cool, but lost its appeal pretty fast for me.
