Sol Posted March 12, 2003 Posted March 12, 2003 I have an old Quantum Fireball drive, and it needs to have a low-level format. Where can I go to find the utilities to do this? Quantum admits to never making hard drives anymore, so I can't get it from them.
Jiggy Posted March 12, 2003 Posted March 12, 2003 Quantum Fireball drive are now under Maxtor (Google it), so if you go to there web site and download there drive utils to do your zerofill. Low-level formating is only done during manufacturing, we can only Zerofill or Format.
TiKiGoD Posted March 12, 2003 Posted March 12, 2003 The program you want is PowerMax and it can be found here. Actually, you can do a low level format with PowerMax...

Jiggy Posted March 13, 2003 Posted March 13, 2003 What errors are you getting? Or do you meen bad clusters/sectors? Run a scan disk and set it to auto fix errors, it will take a few hours and if it reports lots of bad clusters/sectors the driver could be on its last legs. Jiggy Posted March 13, 2003 Posted March 13, 2003 It sound like the drive is on its last legs, if your getting lots of bad sectors and running scan disk and a full (not quick) zerofill isnt fixing it, get a new drive.
Sol Posted March 15, 2003 Posted March 15, 2003 Well, that program did work. Everything seems to be ok now. The reason I was doing this, is because I can't afford a new HD right now. They are too much $$$.
