rpgaction Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Is there any way to remove the silver conductive material (like in a conductive pen) that won't damage a motherboard?

rpgaction Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 Sorry. I mean this stuff - http://www.mgchemicals.com/products/8420p.html It was necessary to apply to a certain part of my motherboard in order to do a modification that allowed me to go .1 higher in the vcore settings. I accidentally slipped after trying to correctly get enough on the specified area for the third time after it not working so far, and now my motherboard won't boot up. rpgaction Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 Thanks, I just used some and it came right off. I just hope there's no permanent damage now. Is there any risk of permanent damage from acrylic silver in amounts not even visible under a magnifying glass?
DevilMB3017 Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 Yes. If it's *just* enough to short anything out, you'll have problems. If you shorted something out when you slipped, you have even more problems. And I don't mean to be mean or evil by this, but you shouldn't be trying to do serious mods like this if your not going to be prepared enough to know how to remove the conductive materials and also be prepared to need a new motherboard. rpgaction Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 Yeah, I know, I really jumped into it a little fast. But hey, nothing teaches you to pace yourself better than screwing something up in haste.
DevilMB3017 Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 Always remember the old saying, "Measure twice, cut once". Whenever I mess around with computers - which is daily because I get paid for it now - I always check what I'm doing twice, and only have to do anything once. Just out of my personal wonder - what motherboard are you trying this mod on? Also, why did you need .1 more vcore? That little rarely helps from what I've seen. rpgaction Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 It's an Asrock 939 Dual SATA2. The mod info can be found here - http://www.techpowerup.com/articles//overc.../voltmods/130/2 The vcore cap is default 1.45. .1 more will get me a lot more stability for overclocking. I've gone through a few doses of acetone for this. The little pads are too small for my conductive pen. I hope I can nail it next time. Nagash Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 (edited) 1.55 Vcore is still nothing to brag about. Edited January 1, 2006 by Nagash
