SunDiego Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 Hey Looking to build my computer, first build, and I want it able for gaming and that will be able to play games at good levels for some time. Also i want to be able to upgrade it and OC in the future. I dont want to spend a lot of money, around 300-450 is about it, and only at the higher ranges if its worth it. What processors do you reccomend? I am looking at these: AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego Core AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ w/Fan AMD Opteron 148 2.2GHz AMD Athlon 64 3800+ AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ AMD Opteron 150 2.4GHz Any help would be apperciated. Thanks
Nerm Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 I would suggest going with the 4000+ SD.
ClayMeow Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 I'd say one of the opterons if you can get a hold of one (I think the 148 OC's better, but I'm not positive). Otherwise ---V I would suggest going with the 4000+ SD. 606502[/snapback]

r_target Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 Those Opterons seem to be pretty hot right now. If I was looking, that's what I'd look for.

danyo64 Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 you should be able to hit 3 GHz on a 4000+, my friend just got one, and he hit 2.8 with a via chipset... not knowing what he was doing.. and its stable.

oblivescence Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 s939 opterons are the same as the sandiegos. they are just rebadged. the only reason they oc better is because they are only the later steppings. if you get a sandiego of the same clockspeed and its a later stepping. its the same chip. edit. well not all s939 optys are the same as sandys, the dual cores i believe are just rebadged X2's.
