Is This Possible?

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine was complaining his pc was running hot and was getting a lot of errors (not related to the heat) so he told me he "washed it" and sent me these pics, said he let it dry, mounted it back and was like new again. Possible or a joke?

Possible, Yes. Likely, No.

I know it can be done with some keyboards, But I never heard it being done with anything more sensitive.

Computers can be submerged. You should not have any problems porvided you dry it extreamly well before you power it up again.

:withstupid: ditto! Yes, it is possible but unlikely and foolish even if it did still work. I have had my cpu and mobo completely iced over and then puddles of water standing on them after the ice melted and after giving them a couple days to dry off and with the help of a bunch of fans lol it worked just fine.

He did take out the CMOS battery so there wouldn't be a problem with current running through it and being shorted out...but I highly doubt that "washing" it helped at all, more than likely he just had a better application of thermal paste the second time.

It's possible... I dropped my mp3 player in a puddle and my phone in the sink, and they both dried out fine after a couple of days, but if you do try it, don't use a hairdryer, or at least be very careful!

my old 2500 barton was dropped in a dirty puddle deeper than my shoe and it still worked after abit of hairdryer action so i dont see why not.

:withstupid: You have to be real careful as to let it dry COMPLETELY. There are a lot of crevices water can hide, like underneath the pci slots and whatnot. If one's not careful, you can definitely short it out. I'd say it's highly unlikely he did this. Plus, it'd have no effect on the mobo's ability to resist heat unless it was extremely dusty beforehand.

If you have the option...To "dry" it, use a dehumidifer. That's your best bet once all the surface water is gone...

He took the cmos battery out so there was not electrical current there... so if he let it dry really well than i guess its possible...

well in those pics, does it look like his sink and does it look like his hands? In the last pic you can see the tiles on the wall....does it look familiar?
