Ste Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 You can preform CHKDSK from Command prompt on it. It will find the Sector and Flag it. (I think) A format of the drive "could" Fix it.

Ste Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 You could compress the data until you are able to copy the information over to another Media Type.
cold_snipe Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 If nothing else fixes the bad sectors you could always try a low-level format
Ste Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 If nothing else fixes the bad sectors you could always try a low-level format 604761[/snapback] A low level format is not a good idea. Low level formats are preformed by the manufacturer and it is not reccomended you do it on your own unless you recieve software from your manufacturer and instructions on how to do it. Why is bad to proform low level formats?: Because low level formats will eraser the interleave data on the disk. This data is there to allow disk controlers to access the drive. In some cases a Low level format can make a drive useless.
cold_snipe Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 Hmm i never knew it could cause that much damage, but I've always looked at it as a last resort kind of thing, if all else fails Its worth a try if nothing else does happen
asus Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 actually if you have a credit card WD will send you a new HD, allow you to backup your data then send the bad one back to them.. they dont charge you unless you dont send them the bad hard drive in 30 days

DECwakeboarder Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 Yep, I've done it a few times without a problem as well. WD has the best customer support of any company I've dealt with.
