Dfi L/p Atx Power Connecters

ive been reading all about hooking up the power connectors for my new board,

but i cant find out what to do about my atx power connector having olny 20 pins instead of the required 24, all i get is its nessary to use the 24 pin one.

my sig has the type of psu im using , would like any suggestions.

Its nevesary, trust me, i'd usually suggest other (to save people money) but on the setup your using, YES its neccesary

 

The extra 4 pins are used for the PCI-E grpahics card

 

20 pin used on agp=max of 45 watts

 

24pin used on PCI-E=max of ~75 watts

 

thats why the extra pins are needed, pci-e supports more power on the slot, and seeing that you have a power hungry 7800 GT... yeah

The 20 pin connector should be fine

 

Just make sure you connect the 4 pin Molex connector, and the 4 pin floppy connector also, those are Graphics specific power, while the extra 4 pin on the 20 pin connector are used by the entire baord.

For the doubting thomases here it does need to have a native 24 pin psu. If you do not have it you are opening yourself up to many wierd issues. You also must plug in the additional power connectors on the motherboard.Take a look herefor the recommended psu's for this series of motherboard. Take a look through the forums at this link and make your decision then.
