dling Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 ive been reading all about hooking up the power connectors for my new board, but i cant find out what to do about my atx power connector having olny 20 pins instead of the required 24, all i get is its nessary to use the 24 pin one. my sig has the type of psu im using , would like any suggestions. thanks
romeo55 Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 Its nevesary, trust me, i'd usually suggest other (to save people money) but on the setup your using, YES its neccesary The extra 4 pins are used for the PCI-E grpahics card 20 pin used on agp=max of 45 watts 24pin used on PCI-E=max of ~75 watts thats why the extra pins are needed, pci-e supports more power on the slot, and seeing that you have a power hungry 7800 GT... yeah

BabyBalrog Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 The 20 pin connector should be fine Just make sure you connect the 4 pin Molex connector, and the 4 pin floppy connector also, those are Graphics specific power, while the extra 4 pin on the 20 pin connector are used by the entire baord. ccokeman Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 For the doubting thomases here it does need to have a native 24 pin psu. If you do not have it you are opening yourself up to many wierd issues. You also must plug in the additional power connectors on the motherboard.Take a look herefor the recommended psu's for this series of motherboard. Take a look through the forums at this link and make your decision then.

lilkev715 Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 Linky Since he already has a nice PSU he should try it out first before automatically assuming it wont work. Try it out like in the link above. It should work fine as it worked fine for me.
