PEB311 Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 I have 2gb Corsair CMX1024-3200C2 memory, with a Asus A8N Sli deluxe Mobo, w/ amd 64 3700+. When I enter the bios and set the memory to auto it clocks it at 333, 3.0 CAS, this is not the default speeds of this memory so i went into manual and set it at the normal setting of 400, 2.0 CAS, It works but the problem im having is that when i set this, i am no longer able to OC my cpu, it will lock up at boot. When i change the settings of the memory back to auto i am then able to OC my cpu but then the memory is running slower. My cpu is stable at 2.607ghz oc, and i would like to acheive that with the normal memory speeds. I am semi new to this, so plz help! Thx. oblivescence Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 granted i am about the most inexperienced OCer on this site, i do know this, sometimes you have to relax the timings on the ram in order to OC it. so either relax th timngs on the ram or use a ram divider is my suggestion. goodluck, someone more knowledgeble will post soon
ClayMeow Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 what are you doing to OC your cpu? What is the FSBxmultiplier you're using to achive 2.607GHz? By raising the FSB, you're inherently raising the speed of your memory as well, unless u set a memory multiplier to compensate for this. This could be why you're locking up. ClayMeow Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 I have it at 237X11 604054 okay, so if you didn't touch the ram divider (or memory multiplier...i dunno how your bios lists it, I've seen it both ways), then wouldn't your ram be running at DDR474? I don't really know how your bios is set up...what are the options it provides?

The memory is in the Cpu section where it has dram settings and there is where I can oc the memory. But the actual Cpu ocing is under jumper-free settings. Under both of those I did not see it. I do see Hypertransport speed tho in the memory section. it has x1-x5 could this be it? Besides that there are no other mutipliers. Just mhz speeds for PCI, and voltage settings, along with the normal memory timings under dram settings.
oblivescence Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 hypertransport needs to stay below 1000mhz as far as i know. and the way you figure out hypertransport or htt is you multiply the fsb by the number you chose for htt. so you would want 4x, which would make your htt 948 if i did the math right. which is under 1000. Guest Raven65 Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 you have 3200 ram which is 200 mhz not 400 mhz. So you need to set your mobo to 200. the 400 is Dual Channel and will show when you run cpuz.

So you need to set your mobo to 200. the 400 is Dual Channel and will show when you run cpuz. 604478 When i have the speed set to 400mhz in the bios its really 200X2, with this when I run cpuz it says 200mhz. This seems very strange to me, but I found out when i put the memory timings to stock and then instead of 400mhz I set it to 333mhz I am then able to OC my cpu. When i run Cpuz it says 166mhz. Looks like unless I can figure out why this is happening, I have a choice between ocing my cpu from 2.2-2.6 but 333mhz instead of 400. Or having no cpu OC with 400mhz ram. Im trying to give as much ifo as possible. Thx for the help, and I hope this will be solved!
BabyBalrog Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 I say it's the memory controller on the CPU if it isn't a verion E core then the CPU automaticly lowers the memory speed at 2GB size, because it can't address more then 4 banks. ( most 1 GB sticks are dual bank) so that's your problim, and You aren't goign to be able to fix it withouth A) serious OCing, or B) new CPU. Not the fault of your RAM. then again check yoru RAM speed with CPU Z, and Sandra. because i bet if you OC if enough it will get back to DDR 400 speeds
r_target Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 You could try setting the speed to 333 (166 actual) and then set the timings manually. Or did I miss something here? BTW, is this two 1GB sticks or four 512MB sticks?
