Score System F@h

I vote we DUMP the points system and go by the number of WU's turned in. I just dont think its right people with 2000 WU's turned in should be able to go flying by people with 3000 WU's or more :/ For those of us been around awhile this is very disappointing, at least for me and for those making 5000 points aday it wouldnt much matter but would still have a effect on. Yes I know its all for the greater good but still

someone correct me if i'm wrong but i believe that not all wu's are created equal. Some work units just take longer and that is the reason for the point system. If i do 20 wu's that take me 3 days and then do another that takes 3 days, should the 3 day one be worth more because it was obviously a more involved work unit requiring more time?

you're right flareback. the equation for determing points is as follows.

length of time for a test computer to complete WU measured in days * 110 = points worth

test computer is as follows

2.8GHz Pentium 4 machine with SSE2 disabled (more specifically, as reported by /proc/cpuinfo on linux: vendor_id : GenuineIntel, cpu family : 15, model : 2, model name : Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 2.80GHz, stepping : 9, cpu MHz : 2806.438, cache size : 512 KB). This machine runs linux, so all WUs are benchmarked with the linux core.

this is all available at stanfords website under points FAQ

Some folks Folded a lot of WU's before the new points system went into effect last year, so the people that are cranking them out now are getting more points either way. Kinda screwy, but what can you do. I guess the system now is about as fair as it can get.

You are right Flareback, still doesnt mean and I cant piss and moan :D I'm goin down like a leaky boat to China and its upsetting. Still, its for a good cause.

Anyone thats been here for a few years well know what hell I go threw with electric company here, I have robbed them of all the Services I can short of getting my own Gen Set and cranking out my own power. Which would run more in the long run or I'd have done it allready lol, Went so far as to put in a new High Efficiency A/C for the house and it didnt drop the electric bill one bit. Water heater is Gas, Clothes dryer is Gas, Stove is Gas anything I can switch over to Gas I have. Yet the electric bill never changes :/ Only time it changed was when I shut down most of the PCs :( And then for 8 PCs bill only dropped $60 and the Electric Company said each one should be $15 amonth when ran all the time ??? 8 X 15 is more then 60 isnt it ?? *Shrug*

Anyway, hehe WUs or nothing I say, to hell with length they take ! All these Kiddies using school PCs :( GRRRR Get a clue start your own farm AT HOME and pay for it.

Oh ya Fold On!

Flame away all you want I dont give a rats rear end.

End of Line

why do you actually care about the number of work units???

would you rather have folded 100,000 44-pointers?

sorry but i don't see why you are ranting? if people are passing you now that means they have higher production than you... it's not like they're on the old system and you're on the new system or vice versa...

Yes I know ccokeman (growl) if I could afford to fire up all 8 PCs I would, but 4 p4s 2.4 ghz or better and 4 amds 2500+ or better draw some juice. Had to sell 4 PCs earlier this year :( Almost time to upgrade the farm these things starting to get old :/

a cheap way to do is get 8 P2's 450mhz and fold away, if each WU takes 3day on those things you'll be getting lots of points for the same work that a 3ghz computer would do in 8hours

If only that were that case then all these p2's i've seen laying aorund could be of better use. But what erally happens is that F@H takes up a larger burnen on cache, and SIMD code, like SSE2 and SSE that some older computers jsut dont have. But still set them up for timeless WU's and enjoy

I'm right there with ya on the power situation. $400 bills this summer put a damper on how many rigs i could have running. In the winter with lower costs per kwh i can run a few more and help heat the house at the same time. Most of the farm are xp1700's but the ones the family use are more up to date.
