Networking

Hi,

I am living in University halls atm, and have a networking problem involving network bridges.

So,

Heres what I want to do:

Connect a Network switch to my PC, and allow any PC connected to the switch to use my internet connection.

Heres the setup:

My computer has 2 LAN Jacks, 1 of them is connected into the Uni network, the other is connected to the switch.

I connect to the net via a residential gateway or something off the uni net work, so LAN 1

I tried simply using a Network Bridge under Network connections to bridge the connections.

However, when I done this, I could not connect to the internet at all.

Not through this PC, or any PC connected to the switch.

As soon as I broke up the bridge I could access the internet again.

When I plug my netowrk cable into the Uni network, and set it to automaticaly aquire an IP under TCP/IP settings in Network propertise, it works like a charm, however when I do the same for the network connection connected to my switch, I get a Warning saying "Limited or No connectivity" so I went into assign an IP manualy and made up an IP address. The Limited or No Connectivity message then went away.

I done this on all the PCs connected to the switch (giving each a diffrent IP but all of the range 192.168.0.x

This didnt allow the computers to connect to the internet.

However, if I didnt make a bridge, and used the IP range above on all PCs, I was able to host a Game of Unreal Tournament, and PCs from my Uni Network, as well as PCs connected to the Switch all manged to join succesfully. However this only worked if my computer hosted the games.

So, my question is:

How do I setup a network bridge between My 2 network connections, Uni & Switch, and allow anyone on Switch to access anything on Uni, and visa versa??

THANKS Alot!

PS. if this is in the wrong section I appologise, I couldent think of any other catergory that matched my problem.

It sounds like you basically want to use Internet Connection Sharing rather than bridging.

Essentially Internet Connection Sharing will turn your PC into a router/gateway for the rest of the PCs on your switch. ICS is a built in feature of Windows XP.
