Dr_Frankenstein Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 well i have got myself an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum board and now i am looking for which cpu to get problem is i am lost, i want to go dual core but i am on a budget so want maximun bang for my buck (in my case pounds) the only cpus i can afford are the X2 3800 or the Opteron 165 these are what i have read as the differences between the two cpu's 3800 X2 2.0 ghz per core 10X Multi 512kb Cache per core 89w power comsumption Single HTT Link opteron 165 1.8ghz Per Core 9X Multi 1mb Cache Per Core 110w Power Consumption Single HTT Link now i have read if i overclock the opty to 2.0ghz it will outperform the x2 due to the larger cache. now what do i get and any opinions {edit} why the hell is it so hard to find a specific cpu specs on the amd site
LivingGhost Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 Because they only show the best ones. I suggest getting the Opteron, as from what I can tell on these boards they overclock well. Then again, I am a noob, so, ask KB.
ICON57 Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 i was able to run my X2 3800 on my dfi mobo @ 290x 9multi but its on ebay as we speak, i have an opty 148 coming i say got for the opty, better cache...i was not really impressed too much with the 3800 x2....i am a gamer, so the dual thing was no diff than my p4's with ht...in fact it even seemed slower
