We turned it on. We get fans spinning, lights turning on, video card fan going, motherboard fan spinning, so It looks to be ok, but when we hook it up to the monitor we get no response... Can anyone think of something we should check? (FLoppy drive appears to not turn on...) Should it have a bios already?
i_lag Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 yes it should have BIOS........ -make sure the video card is pushed in all the way(dont be afraid to use a little force) -make sure the video cable is pushed, and screw in all the way, into the video card -make sure the moniter is working(test it on another comp) -do the 7800's need an extra power cable???? if so check that too... czGLoRy Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 vid card is completely plugged in, monitor works, everything turns on except the floppy drive. nothing seems to happen when the pseudo-comp powers up. help!!!! o_O
ccokeman Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 Have you cleared cmos. tried with the memory in the orange slots. 1 stick at a time. Depending on the bios the timings may be to tight in the shipping bios. Sound card in the bottom pci slot. Pull everything but cpu ,vid and 1 stick of memory and see what it does. czGLoRy Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 tried the RAM idea and the sound card, but still no chips...unplugged floppy and stuff, trying to figure wts is wrong with this nice brand new pos....the case seems to interfere physically with the placement of the graphics and sound card: had to heavily mod the brackets....wondering how to clear CMOS (taking out the button battery?)....all your help is much appreciated...danke schoen..ps also wondering if one of those annoying reset jumpers has anything to do with it
ccokeman Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 The cmos jumper is right above the battery it could be in the reset position. If you are having problems with the accesory cards fitting in the case you dont have it installed right. try taking the board out of the case and sitting it on the box it came in and then power it up to check if it will come on. Do you have all the power connections connected on the board. There are 4. Just trying to run through all the options. When it starts what are the diagnostic led's showing? Just one problem! Everything is working now, when I try to boot though it says "verifying DMI pool DATA" and won't do anything... before It said insert system disc, I did, then It went to the windows setup screen then it froze. On restart it did the verifying DMI thing. So, I don't know what the problem is but the floppy drive still doesn't work though, other than that it works. Thanks for the help, just that one prob left! LoArmistead Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 So it boots up and everything is honky dorie? Or is it still not going past the boot screen? I was going to say earlier, but forgot, to make sure, if you have two opticals or HDD's, that they are set to master>slave or cable select. ccokeman Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 Now that its up What bios are you using. It will be at the bottom left of the screen when you boot. Try looking at this page for some bios settings that may help you get going. Do you have Sata set up in bios? Do you have all of them enabled and chosen the correct one to boot from? The bios is pretty deep so go back and check all the options just to make sure. My first time i missed a few things and sata setup was one of them. I think you have both the nvidia and silicon image controller on that board.
