ClayMeow Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 its a backup line 592402[/snapback] i think this is one of those "helpful" comments d3 is talking about SAD_DC, if you want it to stop prompting you, you need to edit the boot.ini file. It's most likely located right in your C:/ drive (not in any folder). I believe you'll have to go to "Folder Options" and make sure you can view hidden files and that "hide system files" is not checked. Then look for the boot.ini and open it up (it'll probably open in notepad). Then just delete the line you don't want. It SHOULD be apparent which line is the one you want and which is the "former" one, but if not, post the code here and I (or someone else) will let you know. SAD_DC Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 hmm....sry im very new to this and your being to technical lol.. step by ste would be nice seeing as how i cant even find boot.ini file
ClayMeow Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 okay, the boot.ini file is usually directly in your main drive. Meaning, go to My Computer. Double-click on your main drive (which should be C:/) and it should be right there. If it's not: Go to Tools -> Folder Options. Click on the View tab select "show hidden files and folders" uncheck "hide extensions for known file types" uncheck "hide protected operating system files" Now go back into C:/ and you SHOULD see it. Double-click it to open it in notepad and the copy and paste what's inside here so I can see it. If you don't see the boot.ini file after following the above steps, let me know. hardnrg Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 this is the much faster and safer way to edit the boot.ini * press [WindowsKey] + R * type msconfig (and press enter) * go to the Boot.ini tab * change the timeout to 2 seconds then you'll still have the backup default option (you'll have 2 seconds to select it), and the boot sequence will only pause for 2 seconds if you are just booting or rebooting and you don't press anything... Enyce2k9 Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 (edited) or the classic way, right click my computer >properties >advanced (startup and recovery) >settings >just uncheck both boxes with the times, press ok then restart Edited December 8, 2005 by Enyce2k9
hardnrg Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 you need to leave the timer countdown in there tho... the bootmenu is created to give two options: 1) modified kernel with custom bootlogo, 2) original kernel... if you disable the countdown then i'm not sure if you can even enter safemode if you download the wrong bootlogo version or it's corrupt or w/e... ClayMeow Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 meh. you guys and your workarounds! You're not really fixing the problem, you're just skirting it. That other option is not necessary and simply there so that if you f' up and your custom bootscreen doesn't load, you can restart and go back into windows the default way. Once you know it works, there's no need for it. It's not going to suddenly one day decide to crap out.
94Camaro Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Yeah, but if he isn't a person who settles on one boot screen and instead changes frequently(like I used to do), he needs the opportunity to select the original.
anthony Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 or.. start>run>c:\boot.ini (or what ever drive letter you are on) copy paste this [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect modify if needed
