Zofo Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Friend sent me this way to take a look at some articles and to get some help with the standardized OCing settings of my abit uguru setup SO basically this is whats going on I have an AMD Ath 3800+ x2 cpu overclocking it with the built in Guru functions which jump the processing power up a bit but when I try to run a program POOF the computer reboots for those unfamiliar with the guru - its basically a bunch of quick swappable overclocking functions that are factory standardized - so why is it crashing? Thanks
ady1989 Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 the cpu seems to not like ocing. i am by any means not a very experienced oc'er, but heres what you should try. set that guru . all to defaults, go into bios and take baby steps to oc from there, dont use that software. post what happens
Zofo Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Id prefer to use the software thats included just because its setup to PROTECT my 320 dollar investment lol i dont wanna blow this chip >.< i dont feel like writing a paper to explain why i need additional loan money cause i suck at overclocking hahah though do you have any idea if the dual core would change anything ? ady1989 Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 doubtful that the dual core would affect it, teh ocing software came with your cpu though? if so call am... no dont call them about ocing lol. sorry mate, im not gonna tell you to do anything since i dont know much about ocing and dont want to cost you a cpu. Zofo Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 some stats off CPU-Z if it would help at all
apostolics Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 look if you reallly want help take it dont use the software . its against the warranty anyway so just use the bios. never depend on software because too many variables can mess software up. i oc dual core so i know what to do but if u wont take advice then why ask? ps that ram bytes
Dr_Frankenstein Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 i noticed that you system has actually underclocked your CPU 1.937ghz should be 2.0ghz default
Zofo Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 (edited) i am by any means not a very experienced oc'er, but heres what you should try. 592271[/snapback] i was advice he just said he wasent to sure on that I picked that ram bcause it was the one that the abit website had listed for direct compatibility with the mobo and i just had a friend who blew through 2 sets of ram because he couldent figure out what made his ram imcompatible what would work on this mobo as better ram? and as far as overclocking - what do i want to do as first steps? oh and also: what makes ram "byte"? lol and what should i look for in GOOD ram for OCing applications and just straight up performance? ady1989 Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 i would like to know how it runs at stock settings. the cpu-z was while using the ocing software. ive ocd a bit, and only used the bios. dont try to tweak using the software. im sorry if i wasnt clear, yes i might be a noob to ocing but i am 100% sure you shold try the bios. its the only way to solidly oc. gotdamojo06 Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 I would not trust the software at all, like apostolics said, there are too many variables that could interfer, the software uses the os to oc when you should be using the bios to oc...its the true way to oc, and there is no "safe" way to oc. if you dont know what you are doing, ask, if you dont want to do it, then dont. ady1989 Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 ^ i second that
Zofo Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 From what the manual says the software just sets the clocking setting but there are hardware pieces wired directly to the board which control the OCing function - I bought the panel with the intention of using it but well have to see... BUT i was hoping there was someone who has used the software before. has anyone else OCed a dual core amd 3800 or similar? and what steps shoudl I take to begin testing stability, processing, cooling and the like? and are there any good bench marking programs for dual cores other than just whipping out the rediculous sized renderings?
