Enyce2k9 Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 ok what i seem to understand now is, its interface is ata100, therefor 100MB/sec. so the only gain would be in the Seek time? that doesnt seem worth it if its how im thinking it is. Â also, ata harddrives rarely come close to the full transfer speed afaik. and furthermore, on the conventional drives, the speeds vary depending on where you are on the disk, whereas with these "Static" drives, no matter where the data is located, it's all the same blazing fast speed. ClayMeow Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 hmm servers... dont servers have Terabytes of data... id love to see someone buying terbaytes of Dram 591388[/snapback] lol. depends on the server. Our webserver can definitely get away with 16gb, and maybe even the 4gb if windows installed on a second harddrive (or i guess that'd make it a first one, lol). And we're in the process of streamlining the website and making it more efficient so eventually it'll need even less space. Right now there a lot of databases it needs that can be achieved in other means. It's an e-commerce site in case you were wondering ( http://www.morganmint.com ), using cold fusion. Don't ask me questions about it though, I didn't make it, and we have another guy that's been dealing with it. I'd like to learn more, but haven't had the time to.
