MadMan Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Ok I just installed a 3.2 Prescott and well its running REALLY Hot...I know that prescott's tend to run hotter but dang I don't think this is right...My last proc a 2.66 ran at 27c idle and this one is starting at 47c????? Is this normal or should I consider redoing the AS5 on it?? I do have as5 on it as it is now and no I don't have it overclocked at all and at this point am kinda scared to move forward with ocing being this high of a temp
exeter_acres Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 which heat sink?
MadMan Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 I have the swifty cooling it...I found the problem though...I had originally thought it was like my other proc and required like 1.5vcore and well I was wrong and lowered the vcore down to 1.3 and that dropped temps down to 42, then 41, and now looks like droping down to possibly
habitual geek Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 your motherboard automatically sets the correct(1.3v) vcore, why are you manually setting your vcore to begin with? Â says right on the CPU box 1.4v MAX Â
Psychotic_god Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Is this normal or should I consider redoing the AS5 on it?? 591252[/snapback] You look like you pretty much know your way around a computer so Im not gonna treat you like you don't know this allready, but did you maybe put too much? Maybe your heatsink isn't making full or complete contact with the processor?
i_lag Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 it is possible that u put to much, or there may be air bubbles between the cpu and heatsink....but as5 takes a while to settle in and ensure"maximum particle to particle transfer of heat" so give it some time
Uber Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 thats normal, presscots run that hot. dont worry
MadMan Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Well guys thanks for the replys and all but now I just ran into a bigger problem  I tried occing and well was doing good...up to 3.8 no problems went for 4.0 and what do you know something went (I think)  It acted as if it were a grounding issue where when I push the power button it comes on for less than a second then turns off...I thought it was grounding until I took the mobo out of the case set it up out of the case and it was still doing the same thing. Next idea came to mind was that lovely I just fried a cpu that I never really got to use...I have since switched cpu's and yet it is still doing the same thing...now what I am really worried about is could this mobo have hit the gutter??? I don't really know how to test this out besides what I have just done but if so then well :angry2: I am one pissed off person but I take full responsibility...Any ways of testing this out do you know??? Like I said I have fully unmounted the mobo from inside the case and its setup outside the case....I have a feeling that I just may be very dissapointed at my Ultra X-Connect Psu as well seeing how everyone here told me ahead of time that the X-Connect sucked when it came to occing and I may just know as to why they said this...Once again a lesson learned but never the less the best way to learn is by this way.... Hyper Threaded Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Reset your CMOS first off, that will set the BIOS and all your OC-ing settings back to stock. You should probably give the AS5 a few days to settle in before you really start OC-ing. A good way to get your paste to settle in is to run prime95 for a few hours, then switch the computer off for about 15mins, this will cause the paste to get sucked into all the rough patches in the contact area. Â Did you hear any sort of noise when the computer stopped turning on? A loud pop or bang means you've blown your PSU. What I think, is that you're just over-stressing it and it shuts off as a result of that.

BTSchnarfy Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 If you don't know which jumper it is, just pull the battery out for a little while. Usually works for me.
MadMan Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 well I have a feeling it is dead...no clue as to what to try now...I am down to the point where the only things plugged into the mobo is the main power cord, the 4 pin p4 cord and the little thing for the power on button and thats it...I have taken the memory out, the video card, all the pci cards and I even unplugged the tornado.... no go same thing...I tried the battery thing...nothing...any other last minute ideas?? I am thinking of trying a different psu but have not gone that route yet...Thanks
