Soket 939 Crossfire Mobo?

Recommended Posts

Right now, I am looking at this, but I want to make sure that I will have a good one for overlocking and CrossFire.

I have all my other compents lined up, and I am planning on the ASUS x1800xt and the CrossFire master when it comes out, if there is a better card, let me know.

Thanks.

Also, I plan on running a 4000+, and overclocking that.

If you would like a full line up of what I have, just ask.

Thank you,

noob

Welcome to OCC :).

That board is great for overclocking and Crossfire. Make sure you read the online extended manual though, and don't touch anything if you don't know what it does. DFI is the benchmark for stability and overclocking performance. Make sure you ask here about stuff in the BIOS. Ignore the bad reviews, as they're mostly by idiots who messed with the BIOS too much and screwed up the board. Then, they didn't realize that you have to put the Clear CMOS jumper back to "Keep Data" before booting up.

Oh yea, and get some UV CCFLs for that board ;).

Btw, you may want to get a socket 939 Opteron for overclocking. It'll be cheaper and will overclock much farther.

Well, my brother has been building computers since he was about...probably 8 years old. I am no where near that good. He hasn't really built one in a couple years, so he knows . about parts right now. He said the stuff I had was fine. Oh, btw:

EDIT: Oh dear, the links seem not to be working...Strange, I copied it from where I posted it on another IPB board...

EDIT2: What are UV CCFLs? And, are you sure about an Opteron? I asked in two places (not overclocking forums) and they said to go x2 or a 4000+...I can't afford water cooling, sadly...

It looks good, except for the Thermaltake items. I recommend a Thermalright XP-90c or XP-120/SI-120 (the XP-90c is copper, and has a smaller size than the aluminum XP-120. The SI-120 is more minimalistic). For a fan... well, see if you can find a Panaflo 92mm fan. Otherwise, pick one out from here.

The X2 overclocks horribly because of the two cores. An Opteron gets very far on air, and I believe a member here (hardnrg) has breached 3.0 Ghz on air. UV CCFLs are Ultraviolet Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp, or UV Cold Cathode for short. Here's a good pair.

Wow I'm amazed your username wasn't already taken.

UV CCFL's are lights that... dang what's the word... expel UV light. A lot of pieces on the LanParty motherboards light up when UV light is exposed to them. So those orange pieces will glow orange in the dark when a UV light is exposed to them.

So are they just for show or do they serve a purpose?

Those lights, that is.

And I went into my shopping cart and exchanged the cases...I want to get as much as possible from newegg so the shipping is theoretically less...

And, if I overclock that Opteron, will it be good for gaming? I am mostly making this system for graphic design (photoshop, flash, fireworks, etc.), webdesign (dreamweaver), and gaming (bf2, FEAR, Far Cry, etc.), as my current system can barely do any of these things...

Thanks again!

I don't, but they are a little too much for me honastly...

Ok, now I feel like a real nublet, how do you overclock? Can you point me to a guid?

And, is that ASUS x1800XT the best? I found one for $550 but it's either out of stock or unrealesed...

Oh, Y HALO THERE Hyper. Guess who this is. :)

The lights are for cosmetic purposes. And to wow your friends, when they come over to see your 1337 butt system. "Duuuude! Your PC, it like, GLOWS!" "Yea, I use uber hacking skillz for that!"

However, if you say the latter, I may have to hunt you down and... well, it'll be worse than death .
