IUMaestro Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 Noise is not an issue at all Cost is moderately an issue, value is important Performance is the primary criteria
cchalogamer Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 If you dont care about noise, the Zalman sucks...bc silence is all it has... Self built will give the best performance, but a prebuilt will help the first-timer feel more confident.
IUMaestro Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 <3 you agree prolly a swifty or danger would be best.. asetek if not that, and i shoot shoot myself if i ever consider thermaltake?
ccokeman Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 I would say that home built would be best then any prebuilt system. Ive seen that some guys have put a decent fan blowing down the reserator getting really decent temps. Some have even put room fans blowing over them since the whloe thing is a giant heat exchanger. IUMaestro Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 I was actually getting ready to consider that mod, cause the reserator is a giant radiator if you had good airflow and room temp you could cool well prolly. I have a small circular room fan that happens to be the EXACT same demensions as the top of the reserator, i could cover around the reserator with plexi in a circle and use that fan to pull bottom up through the fins like a heatsink I know that would be a good solution too.. that's why I'm torn. Anybody know how difficult it is to mod a standard fan like shown (the one I have) so I could make it quiet. Can I add resistance after the wall and before the fan? How can I throttle what power goes to it. (this is all of course if I want to get a reserator)

I went straight from aircooling to a custom build (including completely custom radiator using a ceiling exhaust fan) and let me tell you, WOW, i didn't know it'd be so dang complicated. It makes building pc's seem like child's play.

Get a quad outlet electrical box from your nearest or favorite home supply and buy a duplex outlet and a dimmer switch. mount them side by side in the box and wire the outlet to be controlled by the dimmer. That would slow the fan down to where you want it and be pretty cheap. You would also need a power supply cord(3 wire). IUMaestro Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 bibbity bump! the vote is too close, tied again, so VOTE please just real quick so I can reap the wisdom of OCC once again! i don't know if i can handle a custom rig for cheaper than a good swiftech kit and they seem to perform pretty well... h2o-220 apex... mmmm. Nerm Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 If performance is of highest priority then a custom setup is the way to go.
ady1989 Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Self built all teh way. theres no better way to get the best performance and the parts YOU want all at the same time. with a little care and time put into it there should be no leaks and should work just fine.
