nan0click Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 I am looking at buying a new pair of headphones and a separate microphone. I play a lot of Far Cry, and my clan uses Team Speak, so a mic is essential, but I do not want a headset. I was looking at a simple Logitech Desktop Mic, and the Sensheiser (sp, i dont care) HD-555's, what does everyone else think? are the HD555's worth the 150 on newegg or should i go for something cheaper? If you wnat to suggest something else, they need to be comfortable because i have big ears, and also be of relatively high quality. Max spending is

DarkScorpion Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 The HD555's would be great, but you need a good amp and source to really get the most out of them, as they're geared towards music, though it really depends on which version you get. Want a pair of headphones for games? Pick up a pair of Zalman surrounds or something, low impedance 'phones, really. Hi-Fidelity listening? A good pair would be the Sennheiser Hd201's, for 20 bucks, it's ALOT better than a lot of "premium/pro quality" headphones that substandard manufacturers make and sell for the 100 to 200 dollar range. But the Hd555's would be much better, just make sure it's the 50ohm version.
hockeyrcks9901 Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Look at the Icemat's...just google them. They are amazing!!! My friend has them and if I had the money I would buy them. I can wear them for hours without even noticing them and they give great sound. Its easy to tell where people are around you(I play CS 1.6). Not the in-ear ones but the Icemat Siberia's... DarkScorpion Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 I've heard the icemat Siberia's...I would suggest you not waste your money on them. They came nowhere close to a pair of HD580's, and my HD202's with a cMoy and wolfson DAC leave them in the dust, on fire. I had one, the mic broke after two months, and the card starts to scratch your head and your hair get's caught in it...Horrible. I've heard good things about getting like a zalman and a clip on mic...
hockeyrcks9901 Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 The HD580's may be better for sound quality but if hes using these for gaming then sound quality is not the most important thing to look for in headphones. Icemat's have very good sound quality but they have amazing directional sound(can't think of better word) and they are extremely comfortable. Plus, the Icemat's are only $80...the HD580's are $200. DarkScorpion Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 all the directional sound is processed by the sound card <_< Besides, like I said, my set up is still better than the Siberias, and it's not one of those personal opinions. When my friend brought his Siberias over, we could both easily tell that the Siberias were a lot more murky than my hd202's and they weren't as "fun" to wear. Yeah, we used them for games, since that's what he had come over for, and it was obvious which was the better pair. The whole directional sound thing was better on the 202's. And for 80 bucks, I'd rather have a pair of SR60's, which are easily a class above my headphones.
