X1800 Xt Vs 7800 Gtx - 512 Mb

So, pretty much a nice little battle, I am only gonna get it in 2006 so I think most bugs will be solved in ATi, so pretty much, which one is more future proof and which one is just a better overall card, please have some reasoning to why.

 

They x1800 XT

 

The eVga 7800 GTX

 

Both are 512 MB and the 7800 GTX cost an extra $150 =\

if you listen to ATI, we should not be comparing the 512Mb GTX to the x1800xt, they want you to compare it to the 256Mb GTX, which is slower, but also cheaper than the x1800xt, by about the same $150 or more, but what's interesting, is that the 256Mb GTX is usually faster by a little for $150 less

 

so you have a $450 7800 256Mb GTX

a slightly slower x1800xt for $600

or a slightly faster $650-$700 7800 512Mb GTX

 

the 7800GTX 256Mb card is definately the best buy now, paying $600 for a x1800xt would seem rediculous when the same or better performance can be gotten from a 7800GTX 256Mb card for $150 less, then the 7800GTX 512Mb card is very expensive, but it is the fastest card on the market now, so with bragging rights comes a pricetag

 

neither has features over the other really, the GTX's have transparency anti-aliasing, the x1000's have some sort of adaptive AA.........both have strengths and weaknesses, but this time around, both cards have nearly the same capabilities, unlike previous generations

XTPE is due out to fix the gap. in the mean time ATI is just trying to milk what they can from the XT... of course in this thing called the real world, you'll never notice a difference between a 7800gtx and a 6800gt or x800xt or x1800xt... benchmarks show a difference and sell more cards

Yea, if you spend $600 on an X1800XT, you are just plain stupid.

 

Also, show me where you can buy a 7800GTX 512mb RIGHT NOW for $650, yea I didn't think so.

can pickup x1800xt's from tech data for $540... and that's the 512mb version

 

7800gtx with 512mb are going for $710 on the same site.

 

 

 

putting the performance as close as it is (okay nvidia fan boys the benchmarks can say what ever, but please raise your hand if you own BOTH cards and have tried them head to head on your own), I give the ATI the advantate in the price to performance ratio.

$600 was a good average price, of course you can find obscure sites with lower prices, but you could just as easily find obscure sites with $700 pricetags too..........

 

my point, even with a $540 x1800xt, why spend $90 more for equal or slightly lower performance? (remember ATI themselves say compare 7800gtx256 to x1800xt512)

 

where's the ATI price performance advantage there?

You realize that the X1800XT is not in any way shape or form slower than the 7800GTX256 right? I mean I know you are an avid Nvidia fan boy and all, but these are the facts. (BTW, I own 4 Nvidia and 2 ATi cards for reference).

Nagash, maybe you could keep all the flame-boy-ish remarks to yourself and answer to the facts? no need to make off-topic inflamatory comments

 

read through the HardOCP review i linked to in my initial post and see for yourself, the 7800gtx256 came out on top nearly every single time, and it is on average $80-$100 cheaper, even if they were dead equal, how would one justify paying even $80 more for the same performance?

 

i'm just looking at the prices of the cards and the typical performance numbers.......the gtx256 definately gives a better bang for the buck over its competition right now

the shimmering thing has long been gone, and ATI suffered from the same problem near the same time, so don't even try to go there , resorting to grabbing for straws are we?

 

again, look at the review, look at the prices, theres no question the x1800xt512's competition, the 7800gtx256 is the better buy, like you said, look at the facts

They are both good cards. Hell, I own a 9700Pro, most any card made in the last two years would own this thing. If I personally, was buying one of the two cards in question today, it would be the X1800XT. Yes, it is more expensive, yes it is barely faster if at all, and yes if you were going by dollars spend vs FPS gained, the 7800GTX would come out on top.

 

However, none of this has to dictate what anyone buys. People can buy whatever they want without having to rationalize it. You sir prefer the 7800GTX while I prefer the X1800XT. Are either of us wrong? Nope, our opinions merely differ.
