LobbDogg Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 (edited) I've come across a 250gb hdd that has a couple bad sectors on it. Now I was thinking of trying to low level format the drive to see if I can use the rest of the drive. I've never really tried to use a drive after doing a low level format to mark the bad sectors. Anyone personally tried it? and if so what was the results, is the drive still going strong, or was there problems down the road? oralpain Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 Bad sectors are useually, but not always, a physical problem with the drive. I say try the low level format/zero write and use the drive. If you get more bad sectors soon after, the drive is dieing and you should replace it asap, unless you don't mind permanently losing data. Ste Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 You should never low level format a harddrive it will wipe out the software installed by the manufacturer, If you do low level format a HD there is a chance of it not working, a regular full format from an OS disc is good enough.
