exeter_acres Posted February 26, 2003 Posted February 26, 2003 OK, Ok,, since case fans have never been talked about here, I thought I would start a post Right now I have a mid size ATX case, with an 80mm fan intake lower front, an 80mm exhaust upper rear, an 80mm intake on the side blowing directly onto the CPU and an 80mm exhaust on the top like a blowhole.. Temps are fine sys 30 and CPU 35 idle 43 or 44 load... but I still have two more 80mm fans to screw around with... Where would you put them?? I do not have anymore mounting places, but I could cut holes I was thinking lower front, but there is no room directly in the front.. I could do an intake on the base (Hardwood floor and 1/2 in clearance) or an intake on the side, lower front.... any other ideas?? DimensioN Posted February 26, 2003 Posted February 26, 2003 what do you mean with rear? well you must be shure you have more Exhaust then you have intake... so i would put one exhaust fan in the back.. one at the side pannel and 1 exhaust at the top greetz
JeepGC96ZJ Posted February 26, 2003 Posted February 26, 2003 I run two exhause fans in the back. Intake on the side and thats it. I run a little hot. I need liek 2 more fans I think. When I look at the front of my PC (in front of my Hard drives) there is a place for a REALLY BIG FAN. I have not see any this size. I would like to get a fan for it and make it and intake fan. I think this would help dramatically. Jeep
izzugotom Posted February 26, 2003 Posted February 26, 2003 I would take the 2x Fans and mount them at a 90 degree angle to each other. I would then place them in the case so that they blow on to the Processor fan and as such these three fans form a triangle, with these two taking air from inside the case as well as from your side-intake fan, and force it onto the Processor fan..I scored a further 3-4Cx degrees doing this. My two fans I mounted underneath the PSU casing, so that they allign to the P4 fan with a 1 inch gap.

justinal Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 the triangle thing exactly how does that work?
izzugotom Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 Triangle-How does it works? I will describe it as follows..I came across the idea while playing around with fans outside the case on their own.....I thought about this after I discovered that fans in general does not like to suck hard, unless you have a very "high-powered-suction fan/motor like a vacuum cleaner", which eats power and makes irratating noises. .....Take a fan and power it up-feel with your hand on both sides.....you will feel that it blow stronger than it is sucking over the same circular area, in this case it's direct intake area and it's direct output area, like the size of the palm of your hand for a 80mm fan. >Now with this in mind, I thought that if I take the P4 Fan, and supply more air to it, I will improve it's weak suction ability a lot. I had from the beginning 6x sensors/temp gauges mounted, so I can immediately see if any mod I make, does make a difference. My 16 fans are so arranged, that I accomplish improvements with each of them.......Do the effort and buy a separate 12V power supply, buy fans and 1st play with them, to 1sthand observe their working before installing....Some fans does blow better, because of the blade structures..............So....fans...does...not....suck....as ...good....as ....you...think. Everybody may not agree, but so far I am happy, and the temp gauges proved it along the way.

JeepGC96ZJ Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 so what.. Do the CPU fans pull the air off of the heat sink?? or does it suck fresh air into the heat sink? Also does any one know whats the buiggest fan you can get? I have a big mounting space up front of my PC that would fit a nice big fan. Not the 80mm size but bigger! exeter_acres Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 I ran the fan on the side both ways... with MUCH better results blowing cold air into and directly onto the fan on the heatsink... I have seen up to 120mm but I would bet there are plenty larger!!
