Bosco Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 Red Hat is mostly used in all linux server enviroments. I got OCC running on red hat actually I'd get a copy of red hat 8.0 and give it a whirl, if you're really wanting to learn. If you're looking for a linux desktop distro then mandrake might be better for you. I haven't played enough with SuSe to recommend it or not recommend it. http://Google.com/linux help and all the info you ever need on linux http://rpmfind.net very easy to install software, updates, ect.. http://freshmeat.net where us linux gurus get our progs http://www.justlinux.com/

d3bruts1d Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 Can you still use all the same desktop enivronments on redhat like KDE and gnome on redhat? KDE is just a manager for the X Window system... anything running X, Linux/Unix/MacOS can run KDE, Gnome, Enlightenmint, etc... KDE/Gnome, etc is not distro specific, nor is it controlled by a distro.
GolDfiNger Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 ok, we use 7.3 here at work, red hat, my coworker said that there were mass problems with 8.0. HOw true is that? ill probably just end up taking red hat home from work and installing it. or should i definately go with 8.0? d3bruts1d Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 I've used RH8 since it came out... run my FTP/Windows File server on it, and no problems... Course, I don't know enough about linux to say if there are problems or not.
