Overclocking A Pentium 100

Recommended Posts

Ok ok, i know its an odd question but me and my buddies are running a linux webserver off it and our phpBB forum is pretty fast but would be cool if it loaded slightly faster.

so my question.

is it possible to over clock an old pentium 100,

as to what the kind of motherboard it has, i dunno. i attempted to find some sorta chip set name, but it's either faded off over the years or was never there.

would it be something like moving some pins around on the motherboard like some old 486 boxes? or is there something you do to the processors?

i'm pretty experienced with ocing newer comps. so i'm guessing this will be harder..lol

any help is appreciated, even a link to some site to point me in some direction.

thx

on a box that old, it is all related to jumpers on the mainboard. You will need some MB info before you can attempt to OC. Or if you feel like taking a risk, you can do it by trial and error. That is my favorite! Sometimes it works, sometimes it doens't. With a old P100 you don't have much to loose!

i did it once by mistake, and switched from a 486 33 mhz system to a 486 dx2 and smoke started comming from my mobo. I got pissed that i overlooked the jumpers, ( i knew i had to change them, just forgot) then it would not re-boot. I took it out of the case and threw it across the room. About 4 months latter, i tried it again for some stupid reason, and it worked!! wow now i had a cranking system, 486dx2 (75 or 100 i think) with get this, 8 mb ram!!!! 130mb hd. I rOCK!!!!

those were the good ol' days.
