czGLoRy Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 My 19'' LCD screen can display a max of 75hz refresh when "hide modes this montior cannot display" is checkled. I want a little higher because this kind of strains my eyes after a while. Can I use those modes with precautions? I would like at least 85, how do I check if it will work? Kamikaze_Badger Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 Make sure Windows is set to give you a prompt with a timer, and then try going higher. But seriously, don't un-check "Hide Modes My Monitor Can't Display." CHANCES ARE, the hidden modes won't be displayable. And Whiskey Tango Foxtrot would make 75 Hz so bad? I'm use to 1280x1024 @ 60 Hz and I love it.
xPETEZx Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 You have an LCD. Refresh rate is TOTALY irrelavant!!! Each PiXel on an LCD screen will retain its colour until it is told to change to another colour. The only thing that matters is how fast an LCD can change colours, this is know as the response time. An LCD screen does not work with Refresh Rates, it changes when the picture on screen changes, it dosent need to keep refreshing the image which is already there like on a CRT. If its hurting your eyes, its NOT the refresh rate. Look at a CRT TV or Monitor out of the corner of your eye, no matter what refresh rate its at you WILL see it flicker. (This is because for some reason we can see better out of the corners of our eyes) Now do the same to an LCD. Look at it out of the corner of your eye, see a diffrence? You should see it doesnt flicker.
