Call Of Duty 2 Review

Just when we thought the WW2 FPS genre had been milked to death, Activision has once again restored my faith in game design.

My Ratings:

Graphics: 10/10

Sound: 10/10

Interface: 10/10 (Classic COD)

price::performance rating: 10/10

multiplayer: 10/10

Single Player: 10/10

Overall Experience: 10/10

I went out and bought COD2 today. This is supposed to be a nonpartisan review, but I'll say it; I LOVE THIS GAME! I give it a solid 10/10. I haven't given a game a 10 since MOHAA. This is one of the few recent real-life FPS's that has come out and been completely flawless as far as coding and AI are concerned; whereas other recent FPS games have had serious flaws (i.e. BF2 and MOH:PA).

One of the best aspects of this game is the one thing that will bring anti-FPS people back into the spotlight; this game isn't linear! Hoorah! In fact, there are several missions where you create your own path. COD2 keeps all of the interface and setup as the original COD, yet adds in a few extra options and eye candy to make it that much better.

I'll say, this game is pretty demanding as far as graphics are concerned. The rig I used for this game is as follows:

AMD64 3700+ San Diego @ 2.65Ghz

1.5Gb Samsung PC3200

ATi x800xl

160GB Barracuda SATA

Anything over 1024x768 with all the eye candy maxed out made the game a bit sluggish on certain maps, especially in North Africa where the "fit hit the shan" every three minutes. Alas, yet another Nvidia optimized game that is not nearly as friendly to ATi cards as it is to Nvidia ones :( . That doesn't stop Lo though.

I am going to attach a few screenies I took of the D-Day invasion and North Africa as a good teaser for yall. ;) Oh, and I mustn't forget the Marxists.

All in all, I give this game two thumbs up. Go buy it, I promise you won't regret it.

Well after seeing several good first impressions It looks like I'll be buying COD2, and loving it. Lo and I fully agree about the FPS market being...well overrun by crap, either a crap game, or a game like BF2 that should have been great out of the box but was released buggy as hell. Atleast EA is FINALLY getting most of the major issues resolved. Yep I'll have to get the game thurs/fri/sat/sun, prob when ever I take my laptop back to best buy for them to scratch their heads and try to discover why my PCMCIA slot jsut stopped working the other day...

Well I will have to agree with the original poster. This game is a real marvel. Unlike the great hits like Half-Life 2 and F.E.A.R, which in graphics are slightly supieror. The Massive amount of NPCs is amazing. You have atleast 30 allied, and about 100 axis. and that is just a normal battle. The D-Day map was amazing and the voice acting was well picked. Also in the collectors edition the history extras are well worth the money. On the only down side. with multi player being well designed, the servers are ether full, empty, or password protected. Hopfully, within the next week or so, there will be decent dedicated servers. well hope this has been helpful

My rating 10/10

and on a plus its my first review.

PS: loading time 4-8 seconds a map

The fact that you gave it utterly perfect scores, when I have never, in 12+ years of PC gaming, seen a perfect game, makes me question your rating system.

Still, it does appear to be a good game.

Good Point. I will take this time to explain.

I have really low standards when it comes to games these days, it doesn't take a lot to impress me. I was rating this game based off of MOH:PA (which was terrible and glitchy) and BF2 (which is good, but was, and still is, quite glitchy.) I have yet to find any noticable glitches in COD2. The gameplay is also compelling. It didn't lose my attention for a nanosecond. I also graded based on how well it stays true to the original COD, and it does a GREAT job of that.

I have only given three games perfect 10's since I have been into computer games.

The first was Sid Meier's Gettysbug back in 97.

The second was MOHAA (post 1.00) back in 02

and the third now COD2 in 05.

I guess in order to keep my review in perspective, ya'll should know what my tastes are. I like realism in games. I like history, and historical accuracy. I rotate between playing RTS and FPS. My favorite RTS games of all time are the Sid Meier's civil war series, and the Total War series (particularly Rome), and the Age of Empires series. There is also a soft spot in my heart for the C&C series as well. The best FPS's of all time include Doom (the first one), CS, CSS, HL, HL2, MOHAA, COD, BF1242, BF2, and now COD2. I was never into the run-n-gun style of UT, and I never really got into Quake either. If any of you agree with me on my taste in games, I think you'll appreciate COD2.

After having a chance and playing the game. Ive come to the conclusion that it is a good game but, I was looking foward to more. Unforchently the game is alot like the original in the Single player mode. The levels seem repeditive from the first.. The places seem the same. Granted there were some new areas like the Africa campian.. I was looking foward to maybe more though a different country to play as.. Like maybe the French Resistance or even the Candian invasian on Normandy... Just something that the first one didnt capture... Call of Duty has always been focused on the European Theater. So I would have to say that a Pacific part of the game would be no good if they where to put it in..

Anyways the game play is excelent, the graphics are insane, the fights are intense, and it is a fun game. I was just expecting more interacting between the characters and a little more development of the characters so you could actully feel like your there...

I like the game dont get me wrong but I was expecting alot more...

As for me I am also like games that show history in a true realisitc sense. I love history, and I was thinking of getting a major in it in college. Unforchently I desided otherwise.. My favorit subject is World War 2, from the aviation, to the battles, to personal storys of people who lived during the war.
