localguru Posted February 20, 2003 Posted February 20, 2003 so I lapped my TT valcano 7+ tonight. so I got 800-2000 sandpaper wet dry from the auto store. followed the directions in the review section. and here are the results. these are pictures from before can you see that the original had like lines in it. and these are after and then, I applied the smallest amount of as3 to the chip and spread it with a hoby kniffe, and did the same with the heat sink. after putting this back together. I get 2 degrees diference. before 41-idle-46 full load now 39 idle-45 full load so I think I will do the 1500 and 2000 grit sand paper next week. see if it goes down even more, but I'm sooo doing that fan ducting mod. Shaggy Posted February 20, 2003 Posted February 20, 2003 I did it too and Im suprised at how well it works. I only lapped it with the two highest grits and it made the biggest difference.

Ronin Posted February 20, 2003 Posted February 20, 2003 I followed the lapping guide thats on OCC and it helped a ton. infact, with lapping and reapplying as3, I went from 68C under full load to like 39C
Acid Storm Posted February 20, 2003 Posted February 20, 2003 infact, with lapping and reapplying as3, I went from 68C under full load to like 39C you must have had a realy bad heatsink. perhaps it was not mounted correcty. I don't know why, but sometimes remounting it can already help a lot (or not) I had a fairly smooth volcano 7 but I was to cheap to buy the sanding paper. I used silver polish which worked out very good. I could read a newspaper in the reflection. it helped about 4C my temp is a bit hot at 57, but my bios reads 45 at full load. a strange little calculation broblem. still don't know which to believe.
