Acid Storm Posted February 19, 2003 Posted February 19, 2003 after spending 48 hours to get all 177mb downloaded with my poor cable provider; I was just so excited that I waited till midnight to finish and run it. the first massage scared the crap out of me. "you can only run 1 out of 4 benchmarks" my system is getting to old for this snif my gforce 2 isn't good enough anymore. I was hoping on some spectacular graphics like 3dmark2001. they just blew me away the first time I saw those. the one test I could run was just the flight similator which wasn't bad, but not all what I hoped for. the sound test was kind of nice. I think its an important part of gaming, and I have never seen an benchmark test it before. the score was just disasterous. an awfull --> 122 <-- this is what I got after 3 years of saving up lunch money and any other cent I got (see my system below) ok, I thought there always is the demo. now we can see those amazing graphics you need a dx8 compatible card ???? NNOOOOOOoooooooo........... 177 mb of my monthly 5000mb down the drain big dissipointment there. this benchmark is useless till I got something better. I waited 2 years for this. 2 years..... in vain I hoped I could be proud of my little system running something as beautyfull as pcmark2001. But now I'm dissipointed in me and my system. I feel realy bad now knowing I just can't run things anymore. this is going to haunt me for meny lonely and sad nights. I've not been so depressed in years. all what I have waited for was in vain. all what I have work for wasn't good enough. all what I stand for is lost. My life has reached it's bothem I..... Have .. mxrider623 Posted February 19, 2003 Posted February 19, 2003 it took u that long to download on cable!!!!!! i have cable and it took about 1 hour, get a new ISP. your lucky 3DMark 2003 even worked i got a bad dowload so i have to find somewhere elso to do it from. you wasted enough money on stupid stuff for your computer too when you are on a budget dont buy a 19" monitor, a sound card, 9 speakers, or 120 gigs of HDD space you spend your money on a faster system that stuff is important for gaming but you should have worried about that after you build your system. Acid Storm Posted February 19, 2003 Posted February 19, 2003 I'm slowly upgrading everything. gaming is just a small part of what I do. I needed the second 80gb for movies and editing. it also serves as a netwerk backup storage. the 1.3 duron is supposed to be in an older computer. I'm waiting to get a 2400+ athlon but this was the most efficent choise right now. the 19" screen is one of the best investments I had. It will last a long time and it makes it easier on the eyes when reading. a good screen is well worth the money if you spend half your life behind it. those 9 speakers started with a cheap 4 speaker set. I used my stereo to connect to the rear speakers I have 2 old speakers for the center. they were the christmas leftovers. I can choose between dolby digital for music and dolby surround for dvd and games. dolby digital is less noisy for the rest of the house because of the way I have it set up. that cable can reach up to 72kb/s with kazaa but the download managers are just to slow. the gforce 2 mx is about 3 years old. I bought is just after the reliese of the gforce 3 for a good price. I think this is a old but efficient system. I'm still disepointed about the 3dmark performance. I guess it's a hard way to come back to earth's reality.
JeepGC96ZJ Posted February 19, 2003 Posted February 19, 2003 So you could only Beck mark the forst Wings of Terror or something like that. My PC just showed a black screen after that. would not load the second benchmark. Do i just let it run and it will fail the test for that Demo? I didnt even make it to sound. what can I do to get my score? Jeep
RVE Posted February 20, 2003 Posted February 20, 2003 Acid: the 2 main things that are getting you a low score is your VidCard and your CPU. VidCard mainly. You can get a good Geforce4 for decent prices now. Top of the line GF4's are just over the $200 mark. But you can easlity get a Ti4200 and OC it to 4600 speeds which is the more cost effective way. Since the GF4 is directx8 compliant you'll be able to run all expcept the nature and like 1 other vertex or pixel shader test. So all tests except 2. CPU do a lot of game performance. But since you do other stuff like video editing and such, a faster processor with be a more worthy investment if you spend more time working with your comp rather than gaming. Jeep: Do you have a Directx8 compliant VidCard? Like a GF3 or later? If yes then are you OC'ing your card? You might be pushing it too hard. Oh and when doing the benchmark tests, it doesn't play any sound, expect during the sound test. It also has sound for the demo. RVE Posted February 20, 2003 Posted February 20, 2003 Maybe a driver is messed up or missing. Try downloading & installing the latest Catalyst drivers from ATI. See how that works.
JeepGC96ZJ Posted February 20, 2003 Posted February 20, 2003 Well I OCed my board to 2.66GHZ from 2.53. I also tried Dling the ATI driver for my card updated and I installed it athen it didnt recognize my card. what the heck is that all about. I even Dl the correct one. So I have to pop in the dist and re install the ATI software. Man what a pain that was. LOL.. So Now I got it back to working. Jeep I will try some more OCing tonight. See if I can reach 2.8GHZ! Hellreaper Posted May 31, 2003 Posted May 31, 2003 Hello guys i am a new member and also like overcloaking my pc. I' ve got an intel pentium 1.72GHz(i know its starting to get a litlle old...)512 sdram (133hz)asus 845B motherboard an ATI RADEON 9500 pro and sound blaster live.I have tried on this computer a gf2mx400(with64sdram) and a gf4mx440(with128sdram) and you will be supriced to hear that my gf2mx400 was faster!!!Anyway i have concluded that the 3 most important factors of getting a high score in 3dmark and lots of frames while playing antialising on is first of all the graphics cart i recommned an ati radeon 9000-9800 secondly a fast processor 2.4GH+ and thirdly 512 mb of fast memory like rdram or ddram 400mHZ. I can tell you that a friend of mine had pretty much the same computer with me with only difference the 1.69 GHz proccesor and 256 rdram(800MHz)memory.While having the same gcarts(gf4mx440 same model and provider)he could play almost all games with 4XAA at 1024x768 while my computer would barely play it with enouph frames(withno AA).Now even i ve'got that ati radeon i still cant play a good game with AA cause my memory is too slow(if i have AA on when there are lots of units in the game it becomes unbearable),but i can tell you that my 3dmark2001se score at the default setting is 7589 I ve' got a 56kmodem and i always connect at 28.8kbs downloadig usually 2.7-3kb per second and i am about to download 3dmark2003(177mb) may god help me!!!! Raife Posted May 31, 2003 Posted May 31, 2003 If you are going to pop $200 get a ATI Radeon 9500 - I bought one a couple of weeks ago. Downloaded 3dMark2003 (took 30 minutes - I agree get another provider), and ran ALL the tests. Score was 3500 (or something close). The 9500 is Directx 9.0 compliant. Because I just built the system (also replaced MB) I haven't oc'd anything yet. Once I start doing that my scores will go up.
