RVE Posted February 15, 2003 Posted February 15, 2003 Should I get 2 medium sized HD's, like a 20GB just for my Windows install and other system related stuff, then all my games and appz go onto a larger say 80GB or bigger HD? This way if one drive takes a crap I don't have total loss of data. Or Should I just get one big mutha of a HD?

justinal Posted February 15, 2003 Posted February 15, 2003 does it run any faster to get 2 smaller hd or is it just in case one hd dies you still have another one?
VolcomPimp Posted February 15, 2003 Posted February 15, 2003 I'd say that it runs faster... if you raid them then definitly... but even if you dont ya it should be faster, though I dono if you'll really notice anything...
RVE Posted February 15, 2003 Posted February 15, 2003 How do you Raid something? Don't you need a Raid controller or something? And what exactly does that do? I've heard of it for a long time but just never educated myself on the topic. Do mobo's sometime come with a Raid controller built into it? My current setup is a 20GB with just XP installed and other OS and system related stuff on it. Then basically everything else is on my 80GB HD. I've had my 80GB get f*%ked up before with corrupted data and my comp just wouldn't see it anymore. Luckily since Windows was on the other drive I still had an operational computer to troubleshoot and fix the problem. Only bad thing is I lost all my data but I still had Windows! Yay! NyCUnDaGroUnD Posted February 16, 2003 Posted February 16, 2003 if u have raid then i would go with the 2 small hd. If u have a large HD like 120 gb. It would take longer for u to boot up to windows then a 40gb HD. Its because the larger HD takes longer to scan a HD to boot-up then a 40gb HD.
