Matrix Orbital Lcd 2041

hey all,

so i've been looking at getting a matrix orbital mx503, but they're expensive and aren't the prettiest to look at so i was thinking of getting an LCD 2041-IY (http://www.matrixorbital.com/product_info.php?pName=lcd2041iy&cName=lcd-character-lcds)

 

but im not sure how they work software wise. the mx503 has lcdc wich has a lot of plugin's and i was wondering if you have to write your own scripts for the lcd 2041 or if it comes with something comparable to lcdc?

 

anyone have any opinions or experience with this display?
