A "can I Do This?" Network Question

Recommended Posts

Can a wireless router be used as a wireless adapter? Right now I'm using a wireless USB adapter, but I was wondering if there's a way to set up an extra wireless router to receive the signal from the router that's connected to the modem, and run an ethernet cable from the second router to my comp. So it would be modem>wireless router>wireless router>computer.

You are talking about a repeater. I dont think a wireless router could be setup that way.

It should be possible, but I can't tell you exact details on how to set it up. You would of course have to give the routers different IPs and probably set up static routing between the two. Maybe someone else will know exactely how it can be done.

I was wondering about that too. I have an extra Linksys Router (WRT54G) and my dad bought a new one (WRT54GS) and I think theres firmware for linking them toghter, I just don't know what. Maybe if someone knew the firmware required...
