Guest Flashstar Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 Lately, at my house, there has been a huge brown out! Luckily I have an APC backup on my computer so it is regulating the voltage somewhat. It is just freaky because there isn't enough electricity to cool the house so it's 85 F indoors. Unfortunately I live in Texas and it frequently gets to well over 100 F outside. I hope it doesn't last long.

(Of course as hot as Texas is, it is still better than any other state in the union )

Savan Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 probably too many people are using their A/C, thats how the big blowout hapend in New York, and surounding states (last year, I think it was).
evanin Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 how is there not enough elctricity 518836[/snapback] probobly from everyone running thier A/C. It isnt as bad as a blackout. The power company hopefully is trying to fix it. "A situation in which the voltage in a power grid is reduced below its normal level but not entirely eliminated." LoArmistead Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 lol. Whatever his problem is it's a local one. Hate to get political here but it's the only way to explain it. Texas alots enough money of it's overall budget to keep the powergrid updated and working properly (of course there will always be a glitch here and there, as in this case). Whereas California and New York, two more... liberal states... spend a lot of their budget on social programs and throw it at education with little to no organization, and do not spend enough updating the powergrid for a growing population. Like a wise man once told me, "You can afford whatever you want to afford"

I can imagine that would suck.... In NC a few years ago we had a winter storm where nothing came out of the sky but ice.. We got one inch of snow and 6 inches of solid ice...covering everything. Needless to say we had some major problems. Of the 2.1 million people using Duke Power serviced areound here, 1.2 million of them were without power for a week. So basically for an entire week straight, I was stuck living in my basement, getting only power from a gas generator, and my only warmth was a gas fireplace... for a day, then somehow the gas line got busted....rare...but it happened. It was up to 30 in the day, and down to 15 at night. It was very miserable and I never want to go through that again.
