kendellrt Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 I had to RMA my 6800 because the fans were cracked. I got the new one, and everything on the screen was garbage, so they cross-shipped another one. Well, I got it today. It works fine in 2D mode, but I wanted to run 3dMark05 just to see if it would render right, and I get frozen screens and random green pixels. They are cross-shipping another one to me, but could it be my motherboard? Nothing is overclocked, and I have a dedicated 12v rail going to the 6800. Any suggestions? kendellrt Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 I am running diag tests on all of my other hardware. Nothing else is failing.
computergee Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 Might be a bad agp slot. Blow in it to get any dust out. Also look with a magnifing glass and see if you see any bent/broken leads or something. Also check the card for any physical damage. I was getting weird stuff when my 6600gt had a loose capacitor.
kendellrt Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 No bad caps. I also checked the leads on my AGP slot as best I could and they looked fine. I put some isopropol on my card and slipped it in and out and cleaned it each time. I think I just somehow got two bad cards. It is strange. neddamttocs Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 sorry to ask but did you try another agp card (on from another system perhaps)? that may help narrow down the problem to the agp if the other card has the same prob. my .02 cents
kendellrt Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 I have used two other AGP cards with no artifacts at all. I didn't think to test the 3D rendering though. The 6800's have had artifacts even in 2D though. I am going to grab my in-laws card tomorrow an run some 3D benches and see if there are any of the same problems. I really hope it is not my motherboard, that would be such a pain!
peshewah Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 Seems like there is a lot of problems with the Neo2. I just recieved my 3rd RMA from newegg ( it was like pulling teeth) and the corner of the box is crushed. If I have anymore trouble, I will send it back to MSI. Good luck with yours my friend. cchalogamer Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 Could be....but as always, you'll have to test it to be sure...
swifty11212 Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 sigh, i must be one of the few luck sobs that have a neo2 that barely has problems most problems it had was due to my fault hehe.
kendellrt Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 I really don't think that it is the Neo2. I have hardly heard of anyone with problems with it.
IUMaestro Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 i say your best bet of finding out exactly what's causing the problem is to call upon a friend to try your 6800 in their AGP slot.. maybe a 32-bit system. i'm guessing that if the system performs ok and all the problems you have are display then it probably is the video card. try the card elsewhere!!!!!
