transaman Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 Is it possible to set a router as a wireless access point without connecting it to the original router? Can I bridge wireless connections?
RimX Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 Well yes and no...it depends a lot on the brand...and I think you will need to set up a VLAN...I'll look into this tommorw when I'm at work. I'll ask my boss. He has like 7 or 8 wireless labs for the schools so he probly would know...I'll get back to you more indepth tomorrow. lilkev715 Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 What you are thinking of is WDS, aka wireless bridging. Typically wireless bridges are expensive. However the Linksys WRT54G/GS routers with a 3rd party firmware like Satori can enable WDS. Wireless bridging generally is not recommended as there is higher latency for starters. Direct bridging with ethernet cable is always recommended.
