JKowalski33 Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 I'm going to upgrade from my terrible 9200se pci card. should i go for the 6600gt or 6800? i have a few question between the two: 1. will having 256-bit make much difference? 2. opengl 1.5 or opengl 2.0, is there much advantage? 3. the 6800 core and memory times are slower, but then how is it faster overall than the 6600gt? or is it? 4. what are trustworthy brands to go with? i think i have a good idea, but not sure thats about all for now, i know i had a few more question, but can't think of them. Fireonice Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 6800... has more pipeplines. And no 256 bit doesnt make much difference. Not much advantage between 1.5 and 2.0 at the moment (i think). And the 6800 is noticably faster than the 6600 gt bfg, the one that starts with E lol, well i used to recomend pny untill there warrenty issues that bigred stated.... and msi just cuz i have one and iv had no problems with it ^_^
dlb0809 Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 my 2 cents is, probably go for the 6800. as i think its the card that gives you more OCing potential. plus you get the 256 MB of memory instead of the 128 that comes standard on the 6600gt. altho in that price range you're looking at, i would much more highly reccomend the ATI x800. that particular ATI blows each one of those NVIDIA out of the water performance-wise for the same price. "this is coming from a previous NVIDIA fanboy" EDIT search up the card that you choose on pricegrabber.com and it'll find you the best price on the net for it. add your zip code in and it'll even take into consideration how much each seller will charge to ship it to you. JKowalski33 Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 i was hoping to stay around $200, and i just saw how newegg has some 6800 for like $190 or so. if i went x800, i'd want to get and x800 pro, those are around $250 now right? oh yeah, pricegrabber, i'll look there too. haha, the one that starts with E, you mean eVga? Guest FxXP Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 The benchmarks are not that noticeable between the 6600GT and the vanilla 6800 especially when 3DMark05 only has a 400-500 point advantage and 10-15 fps in most games. We have answered this question many times.
matthewbolzicco Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 www.canadacomputers.com has a BFG 6600 GT AGP or PCI-E for 212.00 Canadian. thats badassed, dual pci-e 6600 OC/GT's for $400.00 CAD (aprox $340.00 USD) would yield unreal performance for an unbeatable price. Plus the reduced cost from not having to buy an SLi mobo.
