What's Wrong With My Computer

It is now time to play everyone's favorite game, "What's wrong with my computer?"

I noticed that my fan filter had about 2mm of dust build up on it so I took it off and cleaned it. Then I noticed that the rest of my system could go for a cleaning to. So I used an aircompressor to blow out my entire case. I took the fan off of the HS, and I didn't disassemble anything else. I then blasted my case with air until I felt it was cleaned out.

I then reconnect all the external wires and turned on my comp. I noticed that my fan filter was rubbing against the fan so I turned off my comp in the middle of windows boot up. After I fixed it, I turned on my comp and a screen popped up saying that windows wasn't shut down properly. I chose "Start Windows Normally", then my comp restarted. The screen showed up again and I said "Start Windows with Last known working settings". The screen went blank and stayed blank. I restarted the comp manually. The screen came up again, and I tried starting it in Safe Mode. I recieved a whole bunch of errors.

At this point I was leaning towards a HDD problem, so I went into the BIOS to see if my HDD was being detected. I noticed that I had it connected as a slave (even though Windows has always booted up with the HDD set up as a slave.) So I switched the cable so it connects with the master head. I repeated the above, and the results repeated.

Next, I realized that I have a SUSE Linux LIVE CD. I switched the BIOS settings so that my DVD-ROM drive would boot before my HDD. I inserted the Live CD and restarted. The SUSE Loading screen came up. I chose to start the Live CD normally. The Kernal loaded, then the screen went blank. I restarted and chose to start the Live CD in safe mode. The kernal loaded, and the screen went blank.

Now I have no idea what is wrong with my computer. Please help!

Ok, first thing's first. I know you're a smart guy, I don't mean any disrespect... just stating the obvious stuff as a "just in case".

It sounds like it's definately hardware since the Live CD does the same thing. Have you tried re-seating things? Maybe blow it out some more, maybe some dust shorting something? Ugh, I hate this sort of thing. Have you tried crossing your fingers? That could do it :P

From what you've said it sounds like a video thing. Like when the display flickers and switches to a real resolution, that seems to be when you're having your problem. Is the fan on the display card ok? I think re-seating the vgu and blowing that slot out are your best shot.

Wish I could do more....

Bigred told me to use Rubbing Alcohol and a cotton ball to clean my RAM contacts and to blow out the DIMM slots. I am waiting for the ram to dry and I will try your suggestions afterwards.

I have a 9600se, it has no fan on it (never did). I did not take off the HS (only the fan), but I will reseat it after the RAM dries. If that doesn't work then I will re-blow out my case.

EDIT: The RAM finished drying and I put it in my mobo. The problem still persists. I am going to my 9600se out and clean those contacts. Then I am going to take the hs/f off (maybe apply some more AS5) and I am going to try and reseat.
