Celeron D 3.0ghz Overclock - Safe Temperature?

Recommended Posts

Ok, im relatively new to overclocking. I have just upgraded my motherboard, cpu and graphics.

I have a celeron 2.8 GHZ clocked up to a 3.0 GHZ but am only using the standard heatsink and fan. This is my first overclocking and i am wondering what kind of temperature the CPU should be at to remain healthy. My BIOS reports the core cpu temperature as 46 C but at standard clock it is 38 C, it does not seem like a big increase in temperature but i would like to know is that a safe temperature and if it is then how far can I clock it until it gets too hot (with my standard heatsink and fan) ???

Cheers, Ed.

Is that a load temp, or idle temp? No wait, you said you read that from BIOS so it's idleish :) Run some sort of CPU stress tester and get a good load temperature.

But uhm... aren't socket 775 things Prescott based?
