Dual Core?

Recommended Posts

Does Dual core mean that there are indepent cpu cores running at the same time in the same chip?

Also If you overclock a dual core can you overclock 1 core at a time or when you increase the HTT it increases the speed of them both?

I am pretty much 100% sure that you overclock them the same as you would overclock one chip. Even though its 2 physical cpu's pushing the htt will overclock both of them. yes, its 2 independent cores on one chip. Each core has its own cache, but they do share the same memory controler/hyper transport bus.

Thx for repling so quickly.

Also does that mean that a dual core can go faster and work better then any singal core proccessor?

In multithreaded apps, yes. But in games and single threaded apps single cores are faster like the FX 57

well i guess if you are encoding and playing games at the same time it will be useful since each ore handles seperatley. just corious but will it runn two F@H clients at once ???

It will definitely run two instances of folding, you'll just have to set them up with different machine id during the config process and you're good to go. But, for the reasons bigred mentioned above, it won't fold quite as fast as two separate CPUs.

I'n building a new PC, using ABit's AN8 Fatal1ty SLi, and I planned to use an AMD Dual Core 4400, specifically because of the 2 meg cache, but it seems impossible to find now. Can anyone tell me if the X2 is superior in any way than an FX series?

Lastly does anybody have any info on when the new Chieftec BX series will be available? I went to their usa site and found an Alienware like site that allows you to click and change colors, etc to view your choices before purchase.I've always been happy with the Chieftec line, even managed to get a rookie salesman to sell me an empty Alienware display case, and have been hooked since. The only option that they seem to be missing is the slide out mobo tray, but it's really not needed.

I think that the fx series would be faster then the dual cores know in gaming scince games currently don't know what to do with a second core. But when games come out and they use dual cores the dual core series might be faster then the fx series.

I think that dual cores would be great for games and F@H because 1 core is being used by the game and the other one is be used by F@H and you get more work done then using only a singal core to do all the work. Plus when your done gaming just turn on a second F@H and get more WU done.
