Varry Posted July 4, 2005 Posted July 4, 2005 hi, My mobo has 4 dimm slots, which are 2 pairs of dual channel: slot 1 & 3 dual channle and slot 2&4 dual channel. At the moment i run 2x 512mb pc 3200 in slots 1&3. I'm planning an upgrade towards 2 gb. Now i have an oportunity to buy 2 dimms of 512mb pc 4200. will it work with my current 2 x512 pc3200? i would setup it up as follows: slot 1&3 512mbpc3200 (x2) in dualchannel and slots 2&4 512mb pc4200(x2) in dualchannel. Will this work?
oralpain Posted July 4, 2005 Posted July 4, 2005 It should work, but you will need to run at the worst timings and speed that both sets can run at. You should manually configure the speed, timings, and voltage before installing the new memory.
Varry Posted July 4, 2005 Posted July 4, 2005 i know, guess the pc4200 should run at 400mhz, same as the pc3200. Can anyone actually confirm me if this works?
InvaderTrax Posted July 4, 2005 Posted July 4, 2005 It'll work, but it'll run at PC2700 speeds. Check your manual
Varry Posted July 4, 2005 Posted July 4, 2005 why at pc2700 speeds and not at pc3200 which would be the lowest type. Nonetheless, the pc4200 got sold under my nose, so i'll get pc3200, this''l make 4 dimms of pc3200, which i think i'll be able to run at pc3200, am i right? InvaderTrax Posted July 4, 2005 Posted July 4, 2005 Normally a board only supports 3 PC3200s and 4 PC2700s. If it sees 4 PC3200s, it will clock them all down to PC2700. But like I said, check your manual

r_target Posted July 4, 2005 Posted July 4, 2005 I thought 875 boards can do 4 DIMMS at PC3200. I can't remember for sure.

Varry Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 thx for the help!!! does it matter if it's single sided or double sided?
cchalogamer Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 As long as everything in channel one matches channel two i think it's supposed to work aka even 512mb in slot 1, 256mb in 2, 512 in 3, 256 in 4. I think that even that will work as long as you have 768mb @ one speed in channel 1 and 768mb at the same speed in channel 2. Anyway i dont think it matters if they are single or double sided, as long as both sticks you put in are the same.
